Now that we are eligible for post-season play, I think it's worth mentioning bowl games. Here's what I found for the ACC... Let me know if something is wrong.
Obviously, the opponents are tough to pick so I just threw something out there.
ACC #1: Orange Bowl - 1/3 @ 8PM vs. BCS team (there is no tie-in this year so maybe Boise State?) in Miami, FL
ACC #2: Chic-fil-A Bowl - 12/31 @ 7:30PM vs. SEC #5 (Right now South Carolina or Arkansas) in Atlanta, GA
ACC #3: Champs Sports Bowl - 12/28 @ 6:30PM vs. Big East #2 (Wide open right now, but maybe Syracuse, Rutgers or WVU?) in Orlando, FL
ACC #4: Sun Bowl - 12/31 @ 2PM vs. Pac-10 #4 (Stanford/Oregon State) in El Paso, TX
ACC #5: Car Care Bowl - 12/31 @ Noon vs. Big East #3 (Again, the Big East is wide open right now) in Charlotte, NC
ACC #6: Music City Bowl - 12/30 @ 6:40PM vs. SEC #7 (Florida/Georgia/Miss St? Interesting) in Nashville, TN
ACC #7: Independence Bowl - 12/27 @ 5PM vs. MWC #3 (San Diego St.? That'd be a fun game) in Shreveport, LA
ACC #8: Eagle Bank Bowl - 12/29 @ 2:30PM vs. C-USA #6 (Southern Miss?) in Washington, DC
For the date/time/location/practicality/opponent I'd prefer the Champ Sports Bowl, but being such a big NCSU fan I'd obviously prefer the bigger bowls. I also went to the last Tangerine Bowl we were in (smoking Kansas) and there was no one there and it's in the ghetto part of Orlando.
The Orange Bowl would be amazing and Chic-fil-A bowl is a great time (went to Peach Bowls before), but SEC is always tough.
I really don't see us falling out of the top 4. Even if we're #5 in record, we would probably move up because of our fanbase.

Please God do not let us end up in the Sun Bowl. No only is it a horrible, horrible location, we'll likely be playing a pretty stout opponent from the Pac-10.
Whoever ends up in the Music City Bowl for the ACC (UNC maybe) is going to get pounded assuming they run into UGA, UF, or MSU.
The ACC needs to have at least one team playing on New Year's Day. We need another good bowl tie in with the Gator Bowl gone.

The Sun Bowl would be against a good team at least. The Big East 2/3 this year is still very average. There are no good WVU, Pitt or even Louisville from a years back out there.. 11/1/2010 1:44:15 PM |

Sun Bowl seems oddly out of place...everything else is well within driving distance of ACC territory
Its similar to when we were slotted into the Boise game for a few years...wtf 11/1/2010 1:44:18 PM |

If NC State finished 4/5 in the ACC, would you rather us go to the:
Sun Bowl in El Paso, TX -change of scenery -good PAC-10 opponent -shitty location, more challenging to get there, etc. -higher in the ACC pecking order
Meineke Bowl in Charlotte, NC -same old shitty car care bowl -convenient drive, lower traveling cost -less exciting Big East team, as NyM pointed out -Charlotte > El Paso 11/1/2010 1:54:05 PM |

Charlotte all the way
and I'd say that if I live anywhere but El Paso 11/1/2010 1:54:59 PM |

^^^ And the Emerald Bowl in San Fran.
^^ Since I would probably not go to either one, I'd rather play in El Paso vs a legit team in a new area.
Hopefully neither is an option..in a good way. ] 11/1/2010 1:55:31 PM |

I lived in el paso for two years. It's not even worth calling it a shithole. It's even worse than that. The only thing worth doing was heading down to juarez to drink and pick up some Mexican girls. But theres no way id go down there now. I did go to one Sun Bowl while I was there and it was a shitty game with about 10 people in the stands. I'd rather go to Charlotte. 11/1/2010 3:30:22 PM |

can someone remind me if there is a rule regarding where the loser of the ACCCG goes? or was that just when the ACCCG was in florida? 11/1/2010 3:43:47 PM |

I believe the loser falls back into the pack with everyone else as far as where everyone else goes. That one loss I believe counts as far as putting you into that within one loss of everyone else argument as well for selecting teams. 11/1/2010 3:48:34 PM |

If we lost in the ACC title game, I'm 99.9% sure we would get a Peach Bowl invite. We have a nice history there, and it's been a while since we played in it. I think we still end up there even if we finish 6-2 and FSU wins the Atlantic. ] 11/1/2010 4:38:59 PM |

I figured the two teams in the ACCCG were the #1 and #2 teams in the conference, since they won their respective divisions. Thus, the winner goes to the Orange Bowl and the loser goes to the Peach Bowl.
But I guess what you said makes sense. There could be a situation where a team from the ACCCG winner's division has a better record than the ACCCG loser.11/1/2010 5:25:28 PM |

And the bowls don't have to pick by standings (other than ACC Championship winner to BCS). They only have to pick within one game in the ACC standings (i.e. all 2 loss teams must be picked before a 4 loss team). 11/1/2010 7:36:01 PM |

well I doubt they'd ever have a 32 team playoff or whatever, they do need to cut back on the number of bowls, it's like if the ncaa tournament had expanded, and half the coaches can say, look I made the tournament and made a bowl we had a good yr, when it's bullshit11/7/2010 1:13:56 AM |

Scenarios:
- win @ MD and in the ACC Championship Game= Orange (duh) - win vs. MD and lose ACC Chapionship Game= Game Formerly Known As Peach and Now For Tasty Chicken Sandwiches - lose to MD after a FSU loss to MD= likely Car Care (FSU taken by Champs) - lose to MD after FSU win over MD= likely Champs

Question for the stat-minded... What's the lowest ranked team to ever play in the Orange/whatever-it-was-before-that bowl? I feel like beating Maryland and VT (long shot in my mind, honestly), won't cause our ranking to skyrocket. I feel like we'll be in the mid teens at best... which seems like it could be one of the lower rankings for a major bowl team. 11/20/2010 6:25:03 PM |
