I'm kind of skeptical of anyone who can't enjoy a game like this tonight. What a great pitchers duel in an elimination game. I weep for all the non-big cities who don't like this sport and this type of game.
I hate to be an elitist but it's no real big surprise that of the five largest metropolitan areas of the country, four are huge baseball areas (NYC, Chicago, LA, Philly) while the rest of the simple country doesn't like it. 11/1/2010 9:23:13 PM |

Boston is actually not a huge metropolitan area, though. But everyone Northeast of I-95/I-91 in New England (Munson/Nixon line) is a Sox fan...
I will never win this argument in North Carolina but all the evidence I need is that in the biggest area of the country on the Friday before the local football team was playing in the Super Bowl (Giants vs Pats) the front and back page of every paper was the second most popular baseball team in the area trading for a star pitcher (Johan Santana).
Baseball is so much more popular than football in that area it's not even funny. 11/1/2010 9:32:29 PM |

NyM410 tells it like it is ITT, I'm a pretty big angels fan so my seasons been done for a while but it's nice to see my division being represented, even if they aren't looking super hot. 11/1/2010 9:35:21 PM |

Also, I lived in the Bay Area for 3.5 years. Two of those years the Giants were awful but they have an amazing ballpark (even non-baseball fans would enjoy a night out there) and their fans are great. Never won since they moved out there in 1958 and that is a city that deserves a baseball championship.
Buster Posey is one of my favorite young players in baseball and Lincecum, for a few years, was a must watch starter every time out. 11/1/2010 9:38:32 PM |

Haha, I know that is the case in most parts of the country but it's a stone cold fact that is the case where I'm from.
Anyway, no pissing match here. Just really enjoying (finally) a great game in this years World Series.

Not a fair comparison.
A single game championship will always beat a best of 7.
And no one's arguing baseball is more popular than football...just that baseball is more popular than football in a few pockets of the country. 11/2/2010 11:25:50 AM |

I love the NFL so I never bash it in these threads. I just don't like ignorance, and when people claim "no one" likes baseball it is flat out ignorant given it's the most popular sport in some of the largest cities in the country/world.. 11/2/2010 11:33:32 AM |

Attention span over a 16 game season is a bit easier to maintain than a 162 game season! It is a lot of time invested to watch a good baseball team, let alone a shitty one.
Personally -- and I realize this will sound dumb and like I have no life -- I think the payoff when your baseball team wins a title is greater than football as a fan. 11/2/2010 11:41:19 AM |

unlike NyM410, as a passing phillies fan i have seen my team win a title. also unlike NyM410, i don't care too much about it.
however, baseball at least still kind of means something. the NFL might as well be WWE. it's 100% commercial driven entertainment.
it's also a great game to watch, despite what people on the internet say. 11/2/2010 1:54:10 PM |
