"fiscal responsibility" ... as in for those who spout it when the criticize spending, or understand spending is needed, or that have a solid grasp on economics and understand spending is needed, and realize that what has been done has not really been the correct course of action? 11/1/2010 9:07:27 PM |

I'm using it as a broad term. I'm a MBA'er with a solid grasp of economics and how various past administrations have/have not influenced the market.
This thread was really just supposed to be a thoughtless input type of thing. Thus the Chit Chat.

sounds a little too southern to be him IMO, but def close
"runnin on his record" ...but parts like this are too southern
and anyways how would his own campaign not know who narrated his own campaign ad? i'm so confused right now about the entire situation. lol.

LOL It does sound like him. A LOT like him. BUT GD, how the fuck can you not know who did the voice over in your own ad?? Was he joking when he said he thought it was Morgan Freeman? Or some other context that we're missing here?? 11/1/2010 9:53:10 PM |
armorfrsleep All American 7289 Posts user info edit post |
It definitely sounds like Morgan Freeman, but anyone with common sense should realize that Morgan Freeman's voice work probably costs more than Lawson's entire advertising budget. If the campaign manager was at least mildly competent he would have said "any resemblance to Morgan Freeman's voice is coincidental". 11/1/2010 9:55:38 PM |

Ah, my siren's call.
Here is my anti-Burr rant. You asked for it.
Quote : | "Economy - When he was first learning of the severity of the recession he told his wife to go to the ATM day after day taking out all the money it would allow b/c he was convinced that in a few days "if you put a plastic card in an ATM machine the last thing you were going to get was cash" which earned him the nickname Bank Run Burr. And, after his meeting with representatives from Goldman Sachs, who then gave the max allowed contribution to his campaign, he took a strong stand against Wall Street Reform. In fact Burr has gotten more money from out of state that in state for many years now, this year is no different. We know who he represents.
Environment - He tends to rate horribly here. According to Wikipedia: "Burr has generally received low ratings from environmental-protection organizations. In 2007-2008, for example, he received a rating of 0% from Environment America[17], 12% from the League of Conservation Voters, and 29% from Republicans for Environmental Protection." And he's taken plenty of cash from big oil like Haliburton, BP, and others which is reflected in his voting record.
Gay Rights - He's against repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell and favors an amendment to the US constitution to write in a ban of gay marriage which even his Libertarian opponent has called him out on for wasting government time/money on trying to rewrite the constitution with more of his social conservatism.
Obstructionist - Even with the military. In addition to participating in filibuster threats, he held up Duckworth's nomination to a key position in the office of veteran affairs despite her strong qualifications. He specifically also let generals travel from Korea and Hawaii to Washington DC for a meeting of the Senate Armed Services Committee and then canceled the meeting as a part of a larger party wide effort of obstructionism to not even let meetings happen. And his recent efforts have attempted to block unemployment relief and small business support efforts.
War - Burr says we still need several more years of war. Whereas Elaine has challenged President Obama on amount of conflict we're involved with.
Washington Incumbent - This one might not be a big deal to everyone, but I know for some people they don't like politicians who have been in Washington forever, and Burr has been in Washington for nearly 2 decades. But after nearly 2 decades it’s hard to name any big Burr accomplishments unless you want to count his attempt to make flag burning illegal?
Women's issues - He voted against Franken's anti-rape amendment which passed with many Dem & GOP votes. He also voted for domestic violence to continue as a pre-existing condition. He’s anti-choice and he voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
Carolina - Burr introduced this: 3. S.RES.110 : A resolution congratulating the University of North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team for winning the 2008-2009 NCAA men's basketball championship. Sponsor: Sen Burr, Richard [NC] (introduced 4/22/2009) " |

Quote : | "RALEIGH, NC —With less than 24 hours until the close of polls tomorrow night, the North Carolina Democratic Party is getting reports of disgraceful repeated robo calls to unaffiliated and Democratic voters from conservative interest groups meant to anger voters and suppress turnout.
These unsolicited robo calls, which are coming to a voters sometimes up to eight times in a row, include a Democratic candidate asking for support in tomorrow’s election. Not surprisingly, many people hang up the call before they can hear the full message. The NCDP expects these robo calls to continue being made to unaffiliated and Democratic households into the middle of the night.
“These robo calls are a desperate, despicable, and unfortunately, predictable, attempt by the GOP to keep Democratic voters away from the polls tomorrow,” said Andrew Whalen, Executive Director of the NCDP. “It seems like there is no line Republicans will not cross in order to secure victory. North Carolina voters need to know who is behind these calls, and the NCDP will do everything in its power to ensure these likely illegal calls are stopped as soon as possible.”
These robo calls are not the first dirty tricks Republicans have played in the days leading up to tomorrow’s election. On Sunday, an organization named Americans in Contact PAC (AIPAC) started sending out unsolicited text messages to voters in the districts of Congressmen Heath Shuler and Larry Kissell. These text messages, which could violate FCC regulations, provided a phone number to the Democratic candidates’ campaign offices, leaving voters with the impression that the text messages were sent from their campaigns. Because I don't want it legalized. I don't think its a good idea, and its going to be more accessible to youth. also I believe its the wrong approach to fix our economy.
Also know a few pot growers/dealers who don't want it legalized b/c they'll lose money.
Honestly its really not hard to get a medical card for medical MJ so if you want it that bad its not that hard to begin with. 11/2/2010 1:38:21 PM |
