This guy was a legend, a truly epic surfer. If he was going to die young, he deserved to die in the ocean after riding a 75ft wave, doing what he loved. Not in a fucking hotel room in Dallas. Tragic, for sure.

When I learned to surf in Costa Rica this summer, the instructor's good friend was bedridden with Dengue fever. I was covered in mosquitoes for a few days always nervous that I would get it.

Obviously, the shit is deadly sometimes.
