i'm sure this view isn't original to me, and i'm sure it's echoed somewhere in TSB, but since i don't venture in there except in periods of extreme boredom, i'll post here
the success of various tea party favorites in this year's elections leads me to believe that palin and her ilk will see this as support for their lunacy and as such, will redouble their efforts to gain a following...especially as the 2012 presidential election draws nearer
the current administration is properly screwed by a split congress - the dems can no longer be held solely responsible for a "lack" of progress, but the republicans will also not be held as responsible as they don't control congress in its entirety...this means that the dems will block the republicans, the republicans will block the dems, and even less will be accomplished
come 2012, the dems will be called to account, as they held congress for 2 years into obama's administration, and the republicans will begin accusing them of holding up congress for the second half...the GOP will then begin claiming that change will ONLY come through their complete control of government
enter palin - her squawking (a strange sound for a bear, to be sure) will become louder and louder and the GOP will have three options:
1.) endorse her as the republican presidential candidate, 2.) ignore her, 3.) have her disappear
now, let's be honest...the "real" republicans don't like her...she's batshit insane, as are every single one of her uneducated and ignorant followers (i'd be very surprised to find a tea partier - tea partyer? - on this board...republicans, yes, but not tea partiers)...so here is what will happen in each scenario:
1.) with GOP support, she will have the best chance of winning the presidency...this is risky, though, because the "real" republicans will be split into those that would rather vote for ANY republican candidate, no matter her mental state, than a dem or third-party and will support her out of fear and those who will vote for a third-party candidate, also out of fear, because they know she's a nut
2.) being ignored by the GOP will give her fodder to create the first truly competitive third party in our country's recent history...republicans will finally grow the balls to separate themselves from her, denounce her as crazy, and pray (of course pray!) that she doesn't siphon off too many of their followers so as to have half a chance against a democrat
3.) probably the best option for all involved...rabid dogs (or bears!) have to be put down before they hurt someone...it might even be the first genuine GOP/dem cooperative enterprise undertaken in recent history with both parties equally happy with the outcome...then they'll go back to throwing turds at each other across the aisle
mark my words and bump this thread in 2 years...free thread (for now!)

She quit half way through her gubernatorial run. How will republicans (or whatever party endorces her) make up for that to place her as the nominee? Also she is just a mouth piece. Unfortunatly this retard won't disappear but I don't see her for 2012.

completely irrelevant...the tea partiers are a fringe group that do not rely on common sense or facts to make their decisions...the fact that she's a flake is not of concern to them

well, yeah...but so was bush and he was elected TWICE

I predict #2 will happen and she will run as an Independent candidate a la Ross Perot. 11/3/2010 9:43:09 AM |

^ i agree that that is the most likely of the 3 options...but the GOP won't like it because it will definitely take away a not insignificant number of historically republican voters and the dems won't take much of a hit 11/3/2010 9:45:45 AM |

^^ okay, okay, he was "elected" twice
^ yes, well, this is a two-party system in practice, unfortunately...i think palin represents a competitive third party, but she will (god willing) remain a siphon for the two "real" parties (and, hopefully, just a siphon of the GOP) 11/3/2010 10:07:23 AM |

If she ran as an independent Obama would beat her and the Republican candidate by like 25 points since Tea Partiers are just Republicans anyway (90% of Tea Partiers voted R). 11/3/2010 6:24:35 PM |

well thank god cnn's latest poll said romney and huckabee were ahead of her in popularity
I can see her trying to do some law about forcing creationism in schools and that would probably be the beginning of the end of our country

As an Alaskan, I can tell you, she is awful. I hope for the sake of this country, she will never be in any position of power again. I don't see the GOP nominating her for any position, seeing as she is currently unemployed. 11/3/2010 7:40:21 PM |

i'd just like to throw in that according to her new show, she'd rather be FREE in alaska than in some stuffy political office
so maybe she'll just get eaten by a bear or something and we'll be done with her 11/3/2010 11:25:43 PM |

I keep seeing that quote palin made about "the war card" about going to war with iran, it's hard to tell because it was something televised and I'm just reading the quote but I really hope she meant it as a jab at something obama might do to get votes and not a credible political tactic 11/3/2010 11:32:44 PM |

God, please let her just disappear into irrelevance. I suppose I could handle her running for, and then losing a race for the Republican ticket for president in 2012, but she had better fucking lose, and then had better go the fuck away after that.
My saddest and last day as a devout Republican will be the day she wins the 2012 ticket. May that day never come. 11/4/2010 9:42:14 AM |
