When I moved out of my last apartment I had already met the soon-to-be new tenants. I cut a deal with them to leave some of my furniture (bed, desk, piano, etc.) in exchange for $100.
They never paid me.
Apparently, after I moved out my other roommate (the last one left) trashed the place and Sharpied abusive language all over the walls, furniture, counters, appliances, etc. The new tenants were not pleased. I may have accepted losing the $100 had I gotten pics but they never came through with photos. 11/3/2010 4:01:38 PM |

So my plans for this year were to go with a group of people doing a group/theme costume to Hillsborough St (back when we assumed it would be on Sunday, although it seems to have shifted to Sat to some degree). My costume was pretty much destroyed in shipping, was way bigger than the specifications said to the point of not fitting, & arrived too late to exchange in time killing our group costume plan (delayed until next year for Hboro), and my husband was going to a school related conference in Richmond & then up to the Rally to Restore Sanity in DC on Sat which made Sat not an option. So we ended up with a group of people on Franklin St on Sunday instead. I was kind of bummed about that b/c I was excited about Hboro St, especially now that it had been revitalized, but this worked best for the rest of the group & I was already killing the group costume idea with my original costume being non-functional. We ended up having a good time though. Are you going to leave it at that? No revenge on the roomie, or getting your furniture back? It doesn't take much to get sharpie out of wood. 11/3/2010 4:09:29 PM |

So your housemate burned the landlord because you were mad at the next tenants? 11/3/2010 4:13:29 PM |

Well you not having to move all that shit out had to be worth at least $15-20 of your time...so at least you weren't out the full 100. 11/3/2010 4:31:05 PM |

Which came first? They didn't pay you because your roommate did that, or your roommate did it because they hadn't paid you? 11/3/2010 4:32:44 PM |

no my housemate burned the landlord AND me AND the new tenants (I didn't get paid my $100)
he was renting month to month (like I was) and got pissed when we all decided to move, including the guy with his name on the lease - the lease was expiring anyway
everyone moved out of Brooklyn - me to NC and the other roomie to South Africa
crazy roommate was pissed because we allegedly didn't give him enough advance notice I think he had like a month and a half to two months notice
he was bitching about threatening to sue and muttering about stuff - all the while getting stoned instead of looking for a new place
I pretty much had to leave it be because I moved out of the state and the new tenants stopped returning my emails
so fuck them, fuck him, etc. 11/3/2010 4:34:31 PM |

Why did your roommate need to write on the wall with a Sharpie in order to get you to move out?
The last time I had a roommate that I wanted gone I took a simpler approach. I got drunk one night and went into his room waving my pistol around wildly. He was gone the next day. 11/3/2010 5:33:20 PM |

I did the same thing to my roommate I wanted gone, only with my cock instead of a pistol.
It backfired and he signed a new 12 month lease. 11/3/2010 5:38:43 PM |

he didn't want us to move - he wanted us to stay so he could continue having a place to live he couldn't afford to put down the next month's rent and deposit on his own (we're talking like $3600+)
I tried to help him out a bit by directing him to old roommate's of mine who would have taken over the rooms but he was lazy 11/3/2010 6:15:25 PM |

thanks snewf, I'm not naturally really tidy, but am not a slob by any means. I'm not looking for a big party house but drinking and smoking (outside) doesn't bother me. I am allergic to cats, but what I'm looking for is a room where I can get some uninterrupted sleep when I need to. I keep pretty irregular hours sometimes, but usually I'm in bed by 12. 11/4/2010 11:18:32 AM |

I had a roommate that got pissed off one day, locked the door to his room, removed the window from its frame, and moved all his stuff out through the window except the mattress. We didn't realize he had "moved out" until the landlord came looking for him 11/4/2010 11:21:12 AM |
