I used to hate them. I have not tried them in quite a while, so I want to try them again to see how I feel about them now.

^True. I'm definitely not a parody poster either. But I felt that both were quality...yet probably won't get a lot of traffic. 11/4/2010 10:16:33 AM |

Tried to find a better picture of dates, but I'm lazy and this is the best I could do:
Though they might not be the prettiest food, they are delicious. I love dates and figs. 11/4/2010 10:40:12 AM |

Do they have that mushy texture like figs? It has been so long since I had a fresh one that I can't remember. But I tried a dried one not all that long ago and wasn't the biggest fan. I do not really like the texture of figs or persimmons so maybe dates and I are just not meant to be. 11/4/2010 10:41:59 AM |

This is a guess because I usually encounter dates or figs in a jam/paste or used to bake or caramelize a meat (fig jam is also delicious with a cheese plate), but they're both kind of like larger raisins. Their skin is a little bit tougher, but I would say that the inside is a little mushy...kinda "jammy."11/4/2010 10:57:12 AM |

The texture of fresh dates is like a cross between melted cheese and cotton candy. It's unlike anything else....

Anyone got recipes with dates? (They're more versatile than you think.)

^I used a combination of dates, figs, currants, and creme de cassis to braise a rack of lamb last Valentines Day. Shit was delicious...but took FOREVER. 11/4/2010 11:15:44 AM |

I like "Hot Dates" which are dates sliced in half, stuffed with pineapple bits, then wrapped in bacon and broiled. mmmm so good. 11/4/2010 3:42:38 PM |

I worked a place that stuffed dates with blue cheese, wrapped them in serrano ham, and dropped them in fryer for a little bit. Fucking delicious. 11/4/2010 4:02:19 PM |
