I drank the Kirin stuff on a layover in Japan. I also drank it in China, but they dumb it down to 4.5%, but it still tastes good, and it still has more alcohol in it than what Budweiser in China has in it. I don't know why they pussify their beer in China and other parts of Asia, especially when you can get 60 proof liquor that tastes like burnt hair and Indian Food with rancid fish and baby shit (but for $1.50, it WILL fuck you up. I've seen it with my own eyes. Shit will incapacitate you to another dimension of hangover). I have no idea what they call that liquor. I don't think it's Vodka, or Rum. It's just drunk water.

If I'm not mistaken, the FDA isn't opposed to it "because it's totally irresponsible", but because there are numerous safety protocols that producers have to follow, and the addition of caffeine to alcohol can't be done safely by the way the FDA mandates production.
