what is this? my brother swears it's a coyote. he said it was with a pack of other coyotes that looked like the typical grayish coyote. i can't find anything on the internet that shows a coyote with that color pattern. he did say it has a big super bushy tail though, which you can't see in that pic. he was hunting on a huge tract of farm/forested land, nobody lives nearby. a farmer said he had some chickens or something killed by coyotes before.

i wouldn't shoot anything that remotely resembled a dog anyway. he says it's not one. i haven't seen it in person.

oh another one of his points was that it smelled super strongly of some nasty odor he'd never smelled on a dog before. like anal gland/spraying kind of thing.

i still can't find a coyote with those colors.

that's retarded...anyone who's ever experienced more than one dog over an extended period of time should know that they're all a little different

my wife's dog has trouble expressing anal glands and if i don't take care of it every 6 weeks or so, it ends up smelling like rotting shrimp or something equally disgusting when they're finally expressed (usually in my car coming back from a backpacking trip as she has been doing recently)

she looks exactly like a miniature husky, but golden...my black hound mix has never smelled like anything bad unless she rolls in something dead on the trail or in the woods (as she is wont to do)

i've shot a dog before, knowing it was a dog...but that was after the dumbass cocksucking hunters around where i grew up were given several warnings about their shit dogs running our livestock

i thought i was going to get shot when i dropped off the dog at their house, but the fuckers should have realized i wasn't kidding and i'm a decent shot (or, rather, i was)

What an asshole. I get the need to defend your property, but why not just fire a warning shot to scare them away?

i love how y'all assume i was just itching to shoot a dog and tried nothing else

when it comes down to it, our property and our livestock is worth far more than a hunting dog

fwiw, i would rather have shot the hunters for being redneck dicks

he has a dog with anal gland problems, and has to express them himself regularly. he knows very well what that smells like.

that's what i'm thinking/telling him

he likes to hunt. he has nothing but free time so he does a lot of it. also, see the previous comment about the farmer.

I can understand shooting a dog/coyote if it is killing your livestock, but just shooting one for the hell of it makes no sense. I shot a cat that was killing my neighbor's chickens, but I wouldn't just walk back in the woods and blast a random stray.

i don't like hunting. i don't think it should be outlawed or you're a horrible person for doing it, but it's just not for me. if i'm going to eat it, then fine, but i don't believe in just shooting them to shoot them. i do like shooting at paper & soda cans.

I didn't assume anything. You said you gave the "dumbass cocksucking" owners several warnings about their dogs. And then you shot at least one of the dogs. And then you delivered the dead dog back to its owners.

There's not a big logical leap there to conclude that, based on your statement, you simply popped one of the dogs after being pissed off at the "dumbass cock suckers."

In fact, based on that single paragraph, I'd say there's plenty to conclude that, while you may not have been "itching" to kill a dog, you were "itching" to deliver some payback/teach a lesson to the hunters, and then twist the knife after the payback was completed.

Either way you slice it, you reach the same conclusion: you're an asshole.

ah, so in your estimation, there is no excuse, eh? we should just fire shots into the air, near the dogs, whatever until we run out of bullets and if they just don't go away, we're SOL? because, since that is the only other option in my particular case (of which you obviously have made up your mind), that's what you're saying

glad to know that there are some dumbass cocksucking hunters ITT

There is nothing wrong with hunting as long as you eat what you kill. Is your brother planning to eat the dog, or is he going to sell it to Ten Ten?

i wish he'd taken a pic with its head turned to the side. coyotes seem to have very pointy little noses and that pic makes it hard to tell. also if it showed the tail that'd be nice.

it doesn't look completely dog when i look at it sometimes, but not completely coyote either. so yeah, maybe a hybrid.

wikipedia says coyotes, and coydogs/dogotes, don't run in packs...

I said nothing like that, nor implied it. I was up front about recognizing the truth in what you replied: that your property is worth more than a single dog. I'm just saying that, had it been me, I'd have fired a shot or two to at least attempt to get the dogs away without resorting to killing them...not some shooting spree up in the air that fails to scare the dogs, runs you out of ammo, and likely results in more livestock deaths.

If that worked, then great...give one last go to try to illustrate to the hunters that the next shot will be to kill. If not, then lower the barrel and drop one of them.

my sister's dog was shot by a goat farmer because he kept running the goats. my sister was upset, but knew that he had to do it. imo, nothing wrong with protecting your livestock as long as you warn the dog's owner before you do it.

That's how some people learn, unfortunately. If they were warned several times, I don't see the problem. Some people simply won't learn unless you punish them for their actions. Being growned ass adults, it would be nice if this wasn't the case.

Oh, and warning shots aren't going to work with a hunting dog. After all, they're used to having a gun go off next to their ear. What makes you think a gun going off several hundred feet away is going to scare them? And even if it does scare them, the dog will be back. They're like squirrels. You can scare them off, but they will be back within the hour.

we tried shooting into the air, near the dogs, scenting, and traps...none of which worked to the full extent

the dogs would pause, but not run, when shots were fired and scenting was useless...we caught one dog in a trap, which is how we knew which hunter the dogs belonged to...upon delivering the dog back to him he threatened to shoot us if we ever touched his dog again and proceeded to tell us how expensive the dog was...when i stopped by the second time after spotting his dog a week later, he said i couldn't prove it was his dog and i was told to "get the fuck off my property before i shoot you for trespassing"

yes, i took great satisfaction in dropping off a dead dog in his driveway after i shot it one day when it was running the livestock (yet again...this was the fourth or fifth time after we caught the dog)...i have always been an animal lover and grew up with dogs, and i certainly never wanted to kill one...i don't know that we had much choice...i feel pity for the dog, none for the hunter, and no shame over doing what had to be done

baaaaahhhahaha!! who am I kidding. This dog's death had no impact in my life and had you not posted this thread, I would have never known it had ever existed.

to be fair, even if he secretly admits that it's a dog, he probably thought it was a coyote at the time

that said, hunting for NO other reason than sport is for dicks

i don't care if a person hunts, but it is a moral requirement (in my mind) that you utilize what you kill (skin and butcher it, and make use of what you've killed)

he just called me again. he took it to the game warden who said it was a coyote. the warden said he'd never seen one that color but it met whatever 5 characteristics it had to meet to be one. warden said he heard of some like that out west around MT. my brother told him there was another one out where he shot that one. the warden asked where & if he could go check it out. brother said yeah sure.

i guess if the warden calls it, then it's a coyote. he could be an idiot but i'm not a warden so i'm not going to claim to know any better.

i still don't like that he shot it, coyote/dog/bear/sasquatch/whatever

he does have the deer meat processed & eats it. he's had a couple of ducks mounted & is trying to find the $ to have that coyotedog mounted bc the warden said "you're crazy if you don't mount that thing. it's a once in a lifetime chance." yay for hanging up someone's dead dogote in your house!

for all the other ducks & geese & shit he kills, i don't know where they go. he doesn't eat them and i don't ask.

meh, I don't see anything wrong with shooting a coyote for sport, they're actually pretty hard to kill. In a lot of places their population has exploded and they aren't considered a native species.

i couldn't care less WHAT someone shoots if it's not endangered, threatened, or protected...i care what they DO with it

taking the life of something that is doing you no harm (or is not threatening you or your family in any way) only for the sheer pleasure of taking its life makes you a douchebag douche-bag (IMHO, of course)
