use a loaf of french bread as a really deep bread bowl

you'd probably have to sip it

The bread bowls are Panera are oversized Sourdough dinner rolls (they sell them in the bakery in two sizes, along with regular Sourdough bread). The bread they serve with it is a regular french baguette.

Assuming you already have oyster crackers (because really son you need those, as much crockpotting you do) a type of sourdough bread wouldn't be bad. For something like clam chowder you can't really go wrong with any kind of bread as long as it's not, like, multigrain or overly nutty (definitely skip on the rye).

I used to work as a baker at Panera so I keep thinking of them, just because if you're in a rush their bakery is definitely the best part of the store. They sell Tomato Basil bread which is a type of Sourdough, that would work.

Really you want anything soft and absorbent with some flavor of its own (sourdough breads).'

You can even just get dinner rolls.

Or a french bag.

Fuck dude all bread is good, and unless you're going to a goddamn bakery and picking something out your choices are going to be limited anyway.

This is a very important question.

What style of clam chowder?
New England, Manhattan, Chesapeake?

Oyster crackers is the correct answer. And real ones, not those hexagonal ritz things.

I call it Hatteras Style, but Wikipedia calls it Outer Banks style, which is probably more appropriate.

I had never heard of this...please elaborate...

Nevermind, I googled it. And found an interesting note about New England style...

We need to raise up and pass some shit like that for our BBQ. These Lexington fuckers need to gtfo.

k so I went to Freddy Kroger and bought a managers special big ass soft sourdough parbake loaf for 75 cents

the style of chowder is the ONLY chowder that matters, new england

im adding the sweetest of mixed white and yellow corn to it because i wanted to twist it up.

so i just gotta find time before serving the chowder to finish the bake, and rest it so i can cut it up into portions.

i cut the sourdough up into little squares and then coated the crust and most likely some of the bread in butter

waited about five minutes and then brushed some australian honey over the top

im worried about it melting when i reheat it, so should i just leave it alone? I actually finished the parbake perfectly and the crust is beautiful

I am shocked at the lack of bread snobs itt.

i expected "oh, asiago and focaccia bring the essence of a good clam chowder into the pallette of the blah blah blah bullshit (puke) blah."

why? you're feeding that garbage to other people, not picking it for yourself

but bread has few basic ingredients and there's a fairly specific science to it. if they sell it, its probably edible.

the same can be said for beer, but clearly no one wants to start a thread about the best beer to go with (x) type of food

mostly because there are entire forums and sites devoted to that

but most beer sold commercially is drinkable. its not like BHS said he was a baker or anything. and we're just all impressed that making clam chowder didn't involve opening 5 cans of cambells's chunky
