I think I read somewhere that slouching is actually good for you.
I don't remember the source, and I don't know if it's true, but I feel better about things.... 11/15/2010 9:50:46 AM |

you can just "walk tall", but depending on imbalances, it will take some hard work via strength work and stretching.

mine is also horrible...i assume sitting in front of a computer all day doesn't help (and is most likely the source of the random back pain i get)
i started doing some really basic exercises and they've helped tremendously (if i have back pain, they make it go away almost instantly) 11/15/2010 10:07:08 AM |

RachelMarie All American 3801 Posts user info edit post |
nope, they make actual corsets for men. shapercorset.com may have them for cheaper than normal and it would save you the time of duct taping yourself everyday. 11/15/2010 10:45:17 AM |
Mr. Joshua Swimfanfan 43948 Posts user info edit post |
no, thats definitely a girdle 11/15/2010 10:46:04 AM |
RachelMarie All American 3801 Posts user info edit post |
it's defiantly a steel-boned corset just like the ones i wear. they make them for men too because some men like them. i'll research and see if i can find cheap ones. duct tape wouldn't work now that i think about it. you need steel boning. 11/15/2010 10:49:22 AM |

how dare you try to put our beloved qntmfred in a girdle.

RachelMarie All American 3801 Posts user info edit post |
i own both girdles and corsets. corsets=much sexier AND the best for posture. also, over time of wearing corsets off and on, eventually you get used to positioning your body in correct posture even when you aren't wearing on.
i'll give you a task: look and up girdle and corset on wikipedia separately. then try to discuss your wrongness again. 11/15/2010 11:09:44 AM |

I too have horrible posture. Because of my height, most back supports on chairs are an inch or two too low to be comfortable for me, so I end up slouching to fit.
It's a continuous struggle for me. I go through phases where several times a day, I catch myself slouching and try to consciously sit up straight--until I forget to try. I'm working on strengthening my core muscles in the gym in hopes that it will help somewhat, but I prefer that to any solution like a girdle or support garment that would artificially help my posture but do so while allowing the muscles that would do it for me to slowly waste away. 11/15/2010 11:44:56 AM |
RachelMarie All American 3801 Posts user info edit post |
Strengthening your core muscles is the best way to get great posture and keep it.
Try to keep good posture everyday for as long as you can. Continue daily and you will find you can do it for longer periods of time. Again, this is just strengthening your muscles.

+1 for using an exercise ball as a chair.
You don't even have to buy the chair base. A lot of people do just fine with just the plain old ball. 11/15/2010 12:46:58 PM |

Just be aware of your posture. How hard is that? How hard is it to realize that you look like an idiot? Sit up. I just judge the shit out of people with bad posture- it helps me remember to have good posture. 11/15/2010 1:03:00 PM |

How does slouching make you look like an idiot?
I contest that idiots conform to silly standards at the expense of their own comfort and relaxation. (that said, if you're actually having back problems, then yeah, go ahead and try to improve your posture.)

The best thing is to be aware. Shoulders back, head up, even making sure your shoulders aren't rolled too forward. For that, make sure your palms face your sides when your arms are down by your side, not backwards. My mom used to give me hell about my posture.
