Suppose to be dropping Q2 2011 and of course it probably could be another open-world adventure like GTA or RDR.
Here is the premiere trailer which includes perhaps the best facial animation ever seen in a video game:

I'm really looking forward to this game. I hope it's good. I was reading an article about the facial animations and they said that it looks so real that it makes the body animations look bad because they aren't fluid enough. 11/20/2010 8:21:41 PM |

If this game has a leveling system like RDR I would hope that it would be slightly more engaging with a touch of some sort of RPG elements.
Anyway there is an article in the Game Informer which is WAY to much to copy/paste so here is the link and its chock-full of information:

the game itself looks pretty awesome.
from the article
Quote : | "Instead of recording dialogue, animating, and performing motion capture as separate steps of the process, Team Bondi (using technology developed by its sister company Depth Analysis) is capturing human performances just as a filmmaker would – except instead of generating movie footage, they come away with fully animated 3D models." |
this could be good or bad. Soon games are going to be marketed around the actors in them, not unlike a choose your own adventure Michael Bay film.

I have played every gta including the expansions and while the sandbox games are fun the story/gameplay tends to be very repetitive. This looks like an epic game, hopefully it delivers. 11/21/2010 3:22:14 PM |
seedless All American 27142 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah, I know what you mean on the repetitiveness. GTAIV was just basically just go here and kill so-and-so, or sneak in or wear this disguise THEN kill them lol. They threw a race in t he mix, maybe even more, but I put the game down about halfway through and never looked back. However I did finish about 70% of RDR (beat the story an got the end credits), and mainly because I really like the atmosphere and the characters, and the hooves of the horses hitting the ground as you ride them is kind of addictive as well. RDR has a leveling system and GTAIV does not so that's something else that keep my interest in the game. 11/21/2010 3:29:01 PM |

After watching the most recent trailer I have a couple thoughts. Did this game change plots/storylines mid development or am I getting this confused with another game? I assumed this was more of a mob vs. mob game set in the 40's. But this makes it seem more of a detective game with deeper attention to detail and investigation and less on shooting fedoras off the rival gangsters
either way, looks great.] 2/17/2011 9:11:57 AM |

Pretty sure this has been a cops vs robbers deal from the start. Either you're thinking of the Mafia or Godfather games, or you're completely fucked in the head. 2/17/2011 9:25:17 AM |

yeah, looking back at some of the older gameplay teasers it's the same game. I suppose i just never bothered to read the plot outline and assumed we'd be playing on the other side of the law like the other Rockstar titles. 2/17/2011 9:31:44 AM |

A new trailer for the exclusive content you get for pre-ordering from Gamestop.
http://www.rockstargames.com/lanoire/videos/6641/
Quote : | "L.A. Noire gets retailer-exclusive missions By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpotPosted Feb 24, 2011 4:19 pm PT
Customers who preorder Rockstar's latest at GameStop and Wal-Mart will get codes to download new cases; Best Buy and Amazon offering attribute-enhancing in-game suits. UK deals also revealed.
L.A. Noire is the latest game to dole out in-game content as retailer-exclusive preorder bonuses, as Rockstar Games today laid out five separate incentive packages designed to draw players to pick up the game from specific stores.
There are now only 7,999,998 stories in The Naked City, depending on where one purchases the game.
GameStop and Wal-Mart landed the marquee bonuses, as customers purchasing the game from either store before or at the May 17 launch will get an additional downloadable case. Those who go to GameStop will receive "The Naked City" case--in which protagonist Cole Phelps investigates the death of a beautiful woman--as well as a Badge Pursuit Challenge, which rewards gamers who find 20 hidden shields with a new suit that holds extra ammo. Meanwhile, Wal-Mart customers will get access to the "A Slip of the Tongue" case, which has Phelps bringing down a citywide racket on a trail of clues that starts with a single stolen car.
Best Buy and Amazon.com are also getting exclusive incentives in the form of new outfits that confer enhanced in-game abilities. Best Buy customers will get "The Sharpshooter" detective suit, allowing for more precise aiming with rifles and pistols. Those who go to Amazon for a copy of the game will instead receive "The Broderick" detective suit, which boosts melee attacks and makes players more resistant to damage.
Finally, Rockstar Games is offering its own exclusive preorder incentive for those who order from the company's store, though it is not of the in-game variety. Instead, the Rockstar Warehouse will be shipping out its copies of L.A. Noire with an official T-shirt, available in multiple sizes, as well as men's and women's styles.
L.A. Noire is in development at Australian studio Team Bondi and follows Detective Phelps as he becomes entangled in a violent web of vice, corruption, and crime in 1940's Los Angeles. Players jump into the seedy underworld of the metropolis and are tasked with solving a series of murders in what Rockstar describes as an "open-ended challenge."
For more on L.A. Noire, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
UPDATE: Rockstar has confirmed the same bonuses will be available in other territories too. In the UK, The Naked City and Badge Pursuit Challenge will come with GAME pre-orders, A Slip of the Tongue will accompany Play's pre-orders, "The Broderick" suit will come with Amazon UK pre-orders, and "The Sharpshooter" will ship with pre-orders from Zavvi. Rockstar also confirmed that gamers in Canada would get the same deals through the same retailers as their American counterparts." |

Well I got the rewards thing going on at Best By so I may pre-orer from them. But the extra story/mission content sounds more appealing than getting some unique apparel. So,I am undecided at this time.
BTW, while I am not 'excited' about this game I am very much looking forward to it. Its seems like it will be much more engaging and varied when compared to GTAIV or RDR.

I haven't seen too much regarding side quests and other things. To me this feels like a slight blend of Heavy Rain and GTA/RDR with more focus on the main story and less on free-roam. Then again, I could be completely wrong but I haven't seen any write-ups about anything outside of the main plot.
That being said, if it's more linear it may only warrant a rental but if it's as good as RDR (a game I completed 100% and still continued to play some time after) then i'll definitely buy it. 3/4/2011 2:24:35 PM |
