Report: Toyota plans to add turbo, direct-injection to most of lineup

About 10-15 years ago toyota made some really awesome cars that were turbo charge. Then toyota was all "holy shit we're not pontiac we don't want people "driving excitement"" so they stopped and be came the best refrigerator appliance "family car" company in the world. Well to compete with all the new turbo vehicles being built that are now approaching their hybrids in gas mileage toyota has an excuse to go turbo again!! Please build them like the supra, celica and mr2 again with tank engines that the wick can be turned up on easy as pie.

Please please please please please make a couple of them fun 'yota... please.

it's emissions motivating this more than anything else. as for driving excitement, I'll believe it when I see it.

yeah i know their intentions... i don't think they will be fun stock but i'm hoping they retardedly over engineer something like they did before and maybe just swap a turbo on a tank bottom end for something crazy.

I still don't understand the scion drift commercials with tanner faust's tc nascardrifer... why interest people that are interested in drifting when all you sell is fwd? Unless the toyobaru has a scion sister?

^ I don't give a shit what anybody thinks, but that car is hot! And way hotter looking but with the same mechanicals is the new Kia Optima Turbo: http://www.autoblog.com/2010/04/01/2011-kia-optima-new-york-2010-reveal

Hyundai and Kia are coming out with hot looking cars in all segments; Toyotas, Hondas, and Nissans just look plain at best, or ugly at worst next to the new Koreans. Mazda has kept up on the styling.

And even the base models of the Sonata and the Optima have the 200 hp DI engine, making them the most powerful in their class, at least compared with the Japs. I have driven the 6 sp manual base Sonata, and it was amazing. The interior is superb and very techy/geeky, and transmission was sweet.

The turbo models are for 25 grand... take that you Japs! And what is crazy to think is that the original Lexus LS had 260 hp... and now you can get a Sonata with 274 hp!

Amanti, not Armanti. That car looks ludicrous... but the new generation with Kia's new design language is out and on sale in many countries, in the US in a couple of months. It is called Kia Cadenza. Kia is making their cars look aggressive and angular, Hyundai is making them look feminine and curvy. Either way, far ahead of the current Jap sedans. Kia's current design head was Audi's design head before coming to Kia!

Cadenza:

The only Toyota with a turbo I will have have an interest in will be the FT-86. Now I'm just hoping Toyota doesn't fuck that car up (i.e. too expensive or too heavy or underpowered).
