See topic. I click Start, type anything - like cmd, nothing shows up. Searches in explorer seem to work fine though.

The most annoying thing about typing "cmd" or even "cmd.exe" into the search bar in the start menu is that I can't just type it and press enter. It must find something to accept the Enter event, at least for me. It won't even find things in the start menus.

Meh. This computer has been nothing but trouble. If I had the money I'd toss the memory in the garbage, replace it, then reformat.

That didn't work. Still the same after indexing is complete.

Everything shows up in an explorer search, wouldn't it be missing in an explorer search if the problem was with the index?

Finally found a link:

All the settings for folder options and search options are correct. The registry fix finally did it for me.
