This is completely dependent on the city someone lives in and has nothing at all to do with size of their dwelling, insulation, or anything else. 12/7/2010 2:46:45 PM |

obviously if your house was built in 1930, is a single family home, & has little insulation, it will cost way more to heat/cool than a 900sf apartment built in 2008...even if they're both in raleigh. 12/7/2010 3:26:59 PM |

1200 sqft all brick ranch-style house built in '55 2 Residents
Electric Summer Peak - $135 (Thermostat at 76*) Winter Peak - First winter in the house, but last month was about $85 and the thermostat is on 62*
Gas Usually around $12.
Water/waste Usually around $50 every two months
I need to lay down some insulation in the attic... That would greatly help... I need to stop procrastinating that shit... But everything else is solid. All the windows were replaced recently with 95% efficient ones... 2 of the doors are draft-free, but 1 still has a small draft at the bottom I need to fix. The attic has some insulation, but what's left is probably as old as the house and is all mostly dust now.

my house is 1609SF, $250 in the summer, $400-600 in the winter...but it was built in 1964 & i live in rocky mount with communist utilities. they're bundled & all come from the city. it includes elec, gas, water, sewer, trash, & recycling. 12/8/2010 8:29:01 AM |

To clarify, on any day above 90°F the AC unit cannot keep up (it's undersized). The t'stat downstairs reads 76-78 but upstairs it will be 80-84 during the day, and no cooler than 77-78 at night. It's a shitty AC unit and when it runs nonstop $260 power bills are what you get 12/8/2010 8:52:04 AM |

If my house ever started pulling 3 digit power bills on the regular in the near future I'd start double checking the meter myself. (I live in SC though not Raleigh just fyi) 12/8/2010 1:26:51 PM |

I used to have really high power consumption. it was a direct result of a crappy carrier HVAC unit. That POS dieing was a blessing in disguise. The Trane I purchased has significantly improved the comfort of the home, and significantly reduced energy consumption.
I was using at peak, about 4500 kWh for the hottest month in the summer, which is astronomical for a house my size. Now, I peak out at about 2800.
My TOU-D power plan saves me about $500 a year, as well.12/8/2010 3:19:02 PM |

1360 square foot house, build in 1981, decent insulation, 20 year old Trane heat pump, crappy ductwork, original windows, 2 people living there
Average is $135
Summer gets up to $185 Winter gets up to $200
I'm hoping a new Seer 15 Heat Pump and Vinyl windows will drive that down a healthy amount...but maybe I'm a little too optimistic about that 12/8/2010 4:05:10 PM |

Yeah, the dual fuel unit was engaged, and the pilot failed to light. I have someone coming to fix it on Friday. Not a biggie. I set the unit to only act as a heat pump for the time being.12/8/2010 4:12:02 PM |
