Its from viewing GOLO comments on WRAL that the true level of NC ignorance is actually observed. Anyone else have this same feeling?

Well, in general, GOLO is pretty much a good representation of North Carolina. Local idiots.

For example, there was a fatal accident on 540 this morning. There are NO details on the accident, and people are blaming the SUV driver, txting, and driving too fast, without knowing anything. Someone who apparently was involved in the accident just called them all out.

we should use this thread to link to stories with the most idiotic comments, for tww's reading pleasure.

my favorites ones are where everyone is calling for the death penalty for crimes that are way outside the scope of capital punishment...the farther the better

Thought I'd bttt this thread for the wonderful comments in this story:

http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/8897004/

This comment was deleted, but finwearer posted this on page 1:

Quote :
"Judgemental attitude has absolutely nothing to do with it. Yacht, houseboat, ANY kind of boat in the current economic times is nothing but FAT. Yes, as I clearly stated, "I hate they lost their property and people were hurt". But I guess you failed to read that far."

Of course most of them were killing him for it, because several of these boats were houseboats and peoples primary residence, not just weekend toys. Somebody else also mentions insurance fraud. Gotta love the class warfare on GOLO.

Also liked the comments on the UNC security story, where they were moving some radioactive imaging equipment to the GlaxoSmithKline building, and people were questioning what the public was doing paying for security for GSK and why didn't WRAL ask the tough questions about what kind of things they were moving. Here is that story for reference:

http://www.wral.com/news/news_briefs/story/8891969/

These retards probably also believe 9/11 was an implosion by the US Government and the birds dying are because of HARP.

I'm terrible at this. So let me respond to this thread. In the past I've done a little pet sitting to make a little cash, which lets you take jobs that you have time for. But lately I haven't done anything. If cash gets tight I tend to just increase my saving habits rather than bring in more money. That might be the way to go if you're on a really tight schedule.

My husband on the other hand, also a grad student, manages to enter into competitions and contests in his field, submit papers that win money, and work tables and panels at conferences in his field, and seems to be saying all that time "guess what, I have an extra 300 bucks", or I just $1000 for a paper, or the students I'm tutoring just paid me for the last few weeks so I have $200 to spend on something, what should I buy? He teaches a few classes and does some TAing too, but I think that might be in his contract for the annual funding, rather than being bonus money. I've looked around in my field, but I haven't found many similar opportunities, but I guess it varies by field and level of specialization.

A friend of mine got a part time job working as some kind of receptionists/assistant for our grad department. I know you said part time jobs probably wouldn’t work, but something like that might be integrated enough into your studies that it isn’t as hard to manage. Or maybe other on campus jobs would be something to consider. I know I had one in undergrad that was however many days a week I wanted, so I think one semester I only did it on Wednesdays and Sundays, which would make the schedule easier to manage than say a part time job at best buy.
https://jobs.ncsu.edu/applicants/jsp/shared/index.jsp

At one vet clinic I used to work at we had a kennel tech who basically only worked weekends, not sure how standard practice that is, but if its something you might be interested in, it might be worth looking into. (sorry, most of my examples seem to be animal related, you can probably see a patern developing)

Got anything you can sell? Tdub classifieds? Ebay? Yard sale? Do people still sell blood plasma? Do any of the colleges on campus conduct research, surveys, or focus groups that you can get paid to participate in? Find a promising pyramid scheme? That's all the ideas I have for now. I'll let you know if I think of more.

"READING, PA. — A Pennsylvania trucker may have saved his own life with an unintentional and very elaborate Heimlich maneuver.

Police say 55-year-old Richard Paylor, of Fairless Hills, Bucks County, was eating an apple as he drove on a busy highway in Reading when he began choking Tuesday morning. Authorities say Paylor then lost consciousness and crashed through a concrete median.

The Reading Eagle reports investigators believe the apple was dislodged when Paylor smacked his chest against the steering wheel. Police recovered a chunk of apple from the dashboard.

Investigators spoke with doctors who backed up their conclusion that the accident dislodged the offending fruit."

Hilarious.

"Clayton, N.C. — A lane shift designed to ease congestion on Interstate 40 in Johnston County is working so well that the North Carolina Department of Transportation plans to make it permanent. On Sunday, workers will re-stripe the lanes on I-40 westbound at U.S. Highway 70 (the Clayton Bypass) to eliminate a lane.

Since September, cones and barrels have marked the temporary fix, a move DOT says has resulted in drivers merging more quickly from the bypass onto I-40. Initial reports on the trial were positive.

"(We) love it. It has made our commute much faster each day," Robert and Amanda Willis told WRAL News in December.

Traffic is a little slower approaching the Clayton Bypass on westbound I-40, DOT spokesman Steve Abbott said, but in the merge area itself, the change has improved traffic flow.

"Overall, the trip is shorter and faster," he said."

http://www.wral.com/traffic/story/10621348/

I don't think these people understand what the story was about, eg.

Quote :
"Hogwash! What studies were done and what time of day? I have NEVER seen SHP, DOT, or any State Vehicle along the roadside during the commuting hours. And how many accidents have occurred in this area during the time the lanes were kept closed?

An even bigger question is why were the lanes built in the first place? Why wasn't a study done prior to spending millions of taxpayers money? Someone in charge of this project should lose their job. Bad decisions and bad management. I wonder which politician benefited from the building of extra lanes?"

The article on the Tracey Cline situation has some fantastic GOLO comments:
Quote :
"Only the voters should do anything. She was elected to the office that she holds. She is doing the best job she can do and everyone needs to support her efforts. Evryone is over reacting and just because she is black everyone is trying to blame her. She is a Great DA and can do the job if you let her.
"

Yes... lets pull the race card here, and blame it on her being black, and not the fact that she can't do her job, and files a motion to remove the judge on every case she has with him. Not to mention the fact that the person on the other side of this fiasco (the judge), is also black. I guess someone didn't do their research.

This article brought out the real cream of the crop

Quote :
"RALEIGH, N.C. — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh will work to get the first North Carolina native ordained to the priesthood officially declared a saint.

The diocese said this week it will formally begin the process on March 9 on behalf of the Rev. Thomas Price.

Price was born in Wilmington in 1860 and worked as a missionary priest in North Carolina before founding the Congregation of Maryknoll with the Rev. James Walsh.

Price died in 1919 while accompanying the first group of Maryknoll missionaries, who were sent to China.

The first step for the diocese is the appointment of a tribunal to investigate Price's life and reputation for holiness.

The sainthood process can take years, and requires advancement through a number of preliminary steps."

"People have inquired why some of us atheists are posting here on this Catholic news story. Simple. According to Richard Dawkins and the other leaders of the militant atheist movement ( of which I am a member) "religion should not simply be tolerated but should be countered, criticized, and exposed by rational argument wherever its influence arises."

The church as tried to crush free thinkers from the very beginning. Copernicus, Galileo, Rene Descartes, Johannes Keplar, Issac Newton, Charles Darwin, Bertrand Russell were all censored, blacklisted, slandered and ostracized for holding viewpoints that challenged the church. ( of course they all were proven correct) The best thing that could happen to the world is the banishment of all religion as quickly as possible."

Actually Vita, it was the teaching of the church that said the world was flat. Scientists and thinking men knew it was round, the "smart" population as you put it were in fact tortured for saying that the churches teaching was a lie. As Ferdinand Magellan stated "The church says the earth is flat, but I have seen the shadow of the earth on the moon and I have more faith in the Shadow than in the Church". Of course Galileo was threatened with torture if he didn't recant his opinion that the earth orbited the sun. After all, the bible in its unalterable truth says "The earth is firmly fixed, it shall not be moved" psalms 104:5"

Well and never mind that she has been caught multiple times straight up lying. And that several trials she had overseen are now going back to court because of gross negligence on her part. Yep, it's totally about her being black.
