This also applies to most mass transits as well.

I know you want to get in the elevator ASAP, but it's a lot easier to let the people already in the elevator out until you barge in. Don't worry, Cherie Killian Berry will still be there to brighten your day with a smile, but wait two god damn seconds to let others exit.

You probably shouldn't fart or talk on a cell phone, but that's not my beef right now.

I never talk on my cell phone in an elevator. I will, however, fart noticeably. Especially when the elevator is packed full.

Stare at the wall, avoid eye contact, try to forget how meaningless your life is. If there is only one other person, you may have to engage in awkward discussion about the weather or a local sports organization but, under no circumstances, should you ever attemt to connect with another human being.

I hate cities.

When you're on by yourself, and another person gets in, desperately try to find the close door button as quickly as possible to minimize the time spent with the door just sitting open.

I apply the European mass transit etiquette rules to elevator...you push, claw and shove your way on/off that damn thing or you're left behind

- If you work on the 2nd floor, take the damn stairs and not the elevator. This is why you're fat.

- If the door is closing and the elevator appears full, dont try and stick your arm in to keep it from closing, just wait for the next elevator

- When the door opens on your floor and you are engaged in a conversation, immediately cut it off and do not linger getting off the elevator to finish your conversation

This frustrates me to no end. I have had a "standoff" before where we just stood there with the kids in their stroller until the people realized they had to move.

I also get annoyed by the people who dont pay attention to the Up/Down arrows/buttons for some reason.

I've never understood how talking on a cell phone is somehow more annoying than if the same person was talking to someone else beside them.

I've never understood this either. I only find it rude/annoying if they're practically yelling into their phone. Inside voices, people!

<3 stairs. I work on the 7th floor and I take the stairs 99% of the time. For starters it wakes me up in the morning and on the busy times of the day it is usually just as fast or faster than the elevator making multiple stops.

I took the elevator one day last week simply to continue a conversation with someone I hadn't seen in a few months and when I got on I said "oh wow, they renovated the interior of the elevators in this building."

He gave me a strange look and said "Yea..in July"

On one hand I felt silly but on the other I was pretty happy to know that it had been almost 6 months since the last time I used an elevator at work.

I always wait for people to exit before I enter somewhere (even buildings), and if I'm exiting and people are trying to push in, I will teach them a little patience by pushing them back like I was on the O-line again... turn to let people exit, and square off to stop impatient assholes- that's how I role

Unfortunately all our stair doors are locked except the bottom so if you go in, you come out on the 1st floor. So i go home that way a lot, but i never get to walk up them.

Elevators, A congressman works in my building and i like to talk to people so i talk to everyone and i hope to one day have a chance to talk to the congressman.

^that's a bummer about the stairs. They just trying to cut down on random stair-related injuries or something? And I assume you mean they are only locked from inside the stairwell until the 1st floor right? ie You can enter the stairwell at any level but can only leave at floor 1.

That seems awfully problematic if there were ever a fire or other emergency.

^ yea that's why I was asking for the clarification on if them being locked = just from the inside so people could still enter on any floor and exit at the ground floor in case of an emergency. Still seems kind of silly to me.

It's annoying to hear half a conversation, even if you aren't listening. It's easier to tune out constant chatter, but the long pauses of only hearing one side of the conversation gets irritating.

^^ seriously. sometimes i'm about to strangle someone on the damn bus when i'm trying to read. i can tune out conversation, but a cellphone is different.

the volume makes a big difference though. if someone talks in a low voice, it's not a big deal. problem is, hardly no one talks in a low voice. some jerkoff always has to speak in an announcers voice as if they want us to hear how cool and interesting their life is. which it isnt. it's just annoying. i dont care what your homie is doing.

Also, when you have a conversation with someone and end the conversation before realizing you're both about to get into the same elevator. That's kind of awkward.

^ I don't know that I like it, but I'm obligated to do it I feel so I always do.

It's almost always people I don't know in the building and we're all bundled up so about the cold weather. Small talk ftw/l?

If I'm not in the back corner where I can lean against the railings, I stare straight ahead and up; usually at the floor indicator if it's there. You can't really check someone out in such a small space without seeming a little creepy.

When in the elevator with an attractive woman, I tend to tell them I'm the one responsible for those crop circles in England

If I'm alone in an elevator on the first floor, I usually hit the top button and write RAPE on the elevator doors.

That way when someone gets on and sees it when the doors shut, I crack a smirk and make my move.

most of my elevator riding occurs in the plant where i work. we usually just talk shit to one another while we're in there b/c it's one of the few places out there that's actually quiet enough to hear each other without hollering.
