My dad's been using one and just found out you're not supposed to use table salt. The pharmacist was when my dad told him that's what he's been doing lol.

plain NaCl doesn't burn

the packets are just 2g of NaCl, just fyi if you don't want to spend 10 bucks for 1/4 pound of salt when you run out of the little packets

You can try chlorophyll . You'll have a bunch of green shit all over your face and can gross people out. And It is actually beneficial to run plant blood through your sinuses.

I was going to post about the brain eating amoeba! That was our topic of conversation at my work Christmas party last week.

I heard about the ameba thing. Sufficiently made me think twice about using one. Ironically, reading a news story about it I started thinking "you know, that sounds like a nifty little thing...".

yep... a whole 2 people have died from it...

i think atleast that many people have died form the sinus infection they were trying to flush out.

I think the problem is pretty much fixed if you use distilled water, and not tap water, right?

I used one for the first time last week when I felt like I was getting a sinus infection. And I do not currently have a sinus infection, so win.

it's probably fixed if you don't live below sealevel in a town that regularly floods contaminating the water supply time and time again.

But just to be safe distilled water is probably good, or you can boil water and let it cool if you don't have any distilled water.

(it's sad that i felt the need to put let it cool so some moron doesn't burn their sinuses out)

^No need for the instruction to let it cool down. Let Darwin take control of that one.

If McDonald's has to convince their employees that hot coffee is, indeed, "hot", then this is fair game as well.

Gunna go get me one of these bitches today.

lol ok so i looked up the rates... .1% of people with sinus infections will die from it... lol..

so the amoeba is the safer route as i suspected.

Does hydrogen peroxide do anything special using the neti pot? I know that they say if you have gunk in your ears to use peroxide to break it up, but I didn't know if it would have the same effect on your sinuses or not.

Yeah I used to use one and it was great, but I'm not keen on dying. First lakes, now neti-pots. Almost certain death from Naegleria ain't worth the risk.
