I was going to be like, "wtf are you going to do with a CDMA phone down there?" but it looks like there's actually a number of carriers in that area

You can't unlock a Sprint Blackberry...unless it is a 8830/9630/9650 (those have GSM in them)

yeah, you'd need to find a carrier there that would add the esn to their database to get it to work. Sprint may have some sort of roaming agreement down there but I'm sure it's expensive as fuck to do it that way.

It's a Blackberry 8330. I also have an iPhone 3GS that I'd like to unlock as well... any help there?

Sprint make their phones a PAIN IN THE ASS to use on other networks. Every time you want to service program them you need a lock code that you have to get from sprint that is based on your ESN.

Pretty much every other CDMA carrier uses 000000 for their service lock code so you can program it to whatever you want....not sprint, the only way to even get in the menu is with the lock code they give you.

If I was you I would activate your sprint phone for international roaming, AND maybe get a prepaid phone in whatever country you are going to.

most of the time you can just ask tech support for your MSL. It's also given to you in the generated instructions on activating the line, you just have to remember to save it. But if your goal is to root/unlock/jailbreak -- chances are the tools you need to do that in the first place make it trivial to get it anyway.

You can get a BB world edition (8830) pretty cheap these days and the HTC TouchPro2 is dual band as well with tons of tutorials for SIM unlocking.

Like it's been stated, Sprint's 8330 isn't GSM capable and unlocking it most likely wouldn't do you any good. I doubt you'd even find a USSC or Verizon rep that would put it on their network.

if you're having to keep sprint service for some reason, then just pick up an 8830 or 9630 then use the SIM of your choice down there and toggle networks/phone numbers as needed. i keep a 9630 around just for traveling, etc. the current one i've never even activated on sprint, i just use it for prepaid SIM cards from wherever.

depending where you're moving, roaming rates might not apply with your current sprint plan. in any event, as cheap/common as 8330's are now there's definitely no point in going through a big hassle to get it on another network. just sell it and buy one for the network you want.

You should grab a Tour off craigslist - it's got a buttload more antennas for you to choose a carrier.
