Is it wrong that I'm getting excited and spend time bullshitting around the internet looking at what kinda car I'm going to get, what furniture to buy, classes I'm going to take, etc

Yes. That is absolutely wrong, and I demand that you stop it.

That's how I was when I came back in the fall of 07. I don't know where you are or what you're doing now, but enjoy it while you can because it seemed to be one of those "grass is always greener" sort of things. Not that I'm not enjoying Raleigh now...

Oh good lord yes, enjoy the time you have there. Either that or trade places with me for a few weeks, that way you can re-see Raleigh and I can re-see Italy.

Damn son, you're living high on the hog if you've got the kind of money for those apartments as an undergrad student.

Well, here's the thing, I'll have a decent amount of money saved up...approx 30k. So this is what I'm figuring

16k for a decent car
3k for decorating my apt (furniture, washer, dryer, dishware etc)

so that leaves 11k, which will be put into savings.

The GI Bill will give me ~1200 a month for 36 months for living expenses, rent, whatever. They'll also pay for my school full time and give me 1000 a year for books. So figure that, along with a small part time job, I'll be good to go.

I've lived at legends for a year and a half... its good for the money, kind of a young professional feel to the community. Staff has been nice so far, but I've never been late on rent or anything.

I moved out when I graduated and then my wife and I went apartment shopping and ended up back here after looking at 10 or so similar places. Biggest draws were large closets and open floor plans, and they took about 100 off the listed rent as long as we're on time each month.

Personally I'd get something in the $600/month range and then have more money to spend on whatever

Lower rent /= not a nice place There's a difference between renting a crack den and renting a mid-range apartment that's well taken care of and has all the amenities.
