you could save a lot of money on the quality of steel you're buying if you would just go to the gym and strengthen your stabbing motion. Make it your new year's resolution.

Yep, cause they only go up in value. Only one of these makers even takes orders and his waiting list is 4 years long....

One of the knives instantly gained a few hundred dollars in value the instant I bought it. But you know, it was a real waste of money son.

It varies. Fixed blade was from a maker who I am friends with, so I cannot disclose the price.

The folders:

$525 for the Gerry McGinnis Mini Vicarious framelock flipper with lightning strike carbon fiber and orange peel titanium frame.

$750 for the Jens Anso Funk with blue and green layered G-10, tumbled titanium frame.

It was a serious question about selling your knives. You can say they are worth a lot, but if you don't sell them and make money or at least get back what you paid for them, then I still think it's a waste of money. And with the economy the way it is, collectibles are items that are either going down in value are just aren't being purchased as much (which is essentially the same thing as going down in value).

I'll sell my house for a nice profit at some point, but I'll also spend 75% of my time in my house as well and get an immense use out of it.

But you obviously can't measure the amount of pleasure you get out of holding a knife and cutting shit.

I haven't noticed the knife market suffering son. I see $2000 knives selling within minutes regularly. There is far more demand than supply in this market. My point is that these are assets and are damn near liquid, it doesn't matter whether or not I sell them. The fact of the matter is that these can be sold at any time for a profit, thus making them the exact opposite of a waste of money. My money hasn't gone anywhere, it was simply traded for extremely desirable objects of higher value.

these might be really valuable and rare or whatever, but they do absolutely nothing to impress me.

in fact, i'd rather see someone's stamp or coin collection than a knife collection.

You can't put a price on posting knives pics on the internet, or the almost orgasmic feeling you get from cutting an old pair of jeans.

These knives are priceless.

Just because your dumbass is paying a lot of money for knives "in minutes" doesn't mean everyone else is.

I'm actually pretty connected with the industry son and I wasn't referring to myself when I mentioned seeing these things go in minutes, as you know. Look man, you don't know about it and that's fine, but the knife community is pretty serious.

In the past week I saw 10 MSC's sell, each was from $1,200-$1800, most didn't last more than a few hours and a few didn't last but a few minutes. I also saw a $5000 Emerson Custom sell within a matter of hours just last week.

When new XM-18's come up, they go instantly. People get on mailing lists for custom knife distributors and when sought after shit pops up, it gets gone immediately. If you put one of those sought after knives up for sale, it sells quickly. You can turn them around anytime you want dude. If it were a one man game (ie - only me buying knives), these folks would be out of business. There's a reason why Jens Anso and Gerry McGinnis don't take orders. The demand is so far beyond the supply that they cannot keep up. You have to enter a lottery just to have the opportunity to buy a new Jens Anso knife. Emerson Customs double or even triple in value instantly because of this. You can literally turn around and sell it IMMEDIATELY at double the cost you paid for it, there are people lined up offering you these prices.

I've got to disagree. There is always room for fine craftsmanship whether it be in woodworking, metalworking, jewelry, watches, or other arts. Some will appreciate it; others will not. Being a "tool" doesn't make it any less relevant. Do you know how difficult it is to make a folded steel piece like this?

Assuming it isn't lost or destroyed by time, people 200 years from now will look at this and appreciate the work that went into it.

Uh, this shows your ignorance pretty clearly. There is a VAST difference between shitty knives and custom knives. Photos cannot convey the difference because there are massive mechanical and functional differences. Steels, geometry, etc.

Car is a car is a car. They all drive.

A house is a house is a house. They all have rooms.

A computer is a computer is a computer. They all compute.

Are you seeing the flaw here? There are major differences between various types of cars, houses, computers and knives. This "logic" is terrible son.

Until you actually sell the knives, you can't say that they're really worth anything. And if you plan on holding onto the knives for a long time, you will need to adjust for inflation.
