I got all my goods at the farmers market today
What do other areas of the US eat for New Years Day? I heard a woman at the pork stand today say something about pork and sauerkraut up north but I don't remember ever eating that as a kid in NJ.
Oh hay look!

When I was in Japan everyone would eat soba:
Ozoni:
Mochi:
I feel like there's something else too but I forget.

haha my dad just moved into a new place near downtown charlotte and said there is a restaurant across the street that has collard greens every day- he was very happy about this (I can't stand the stuff)
side note: I have never done this tradition and I have turned out alright 12/31/2010 4:30:46 PM |

all that stuff is disgusting/stoopid. i know a lot of people that eat killed lettuce, some form of cabbage, and black eyed peas as well. get some better traditions, y'all.

^^^ this is what fried cornbread looks (a cast iron pan is still required). add a little butter and dark molasses and you've got some good eats.

I can't stand black eyed peas, and I prefer cornbread baked in a pyrex dish to the hushpuppies fried in a cast-iron skillet. I have never heard of pork or collard greens being a traditional new-years eve dish, but I grew up on a beef farm so we rarely ever ate pork anyway.
