The sound was awful, and it didn't help that their singing wasn't so great either.

Fergie was just plain uninteresting.

I mean I agree that the appeal of BEP doing the Super Bowl makes more sense than some of the other picks in the last five years, and as far as "performers" they're better, but the music is just so background and uninteresting now.

They basically performed these songs on a televised New Year's Eve event two years ago. And it was bad then, too.

I think producers know that they sound horrible live, but they make up for it in spastic energy, diversity, and lyrical wholesomeness. Basically, everybody's happy, except for everybody.
