Where at?

We went to Hartwell yesterday, only caught 3 stripers. They were good size, as usual at Hartwell, but damn, only 3 fish all day?

Biggest was 10 pounds and smallest was about 7.

im fishing still water, in the eno there are alot of active crayfish so i was a crayfish imitator and then went to some smaller mayfly nymphs because theres a shit load of mayfly larvae all year round in the eno

on the lake i was going for crappie so I used this small weedless bass bug that sinks wobbly but very slowly and easy to maintain water depth as a i strip line

im limited to the shore so in the lake i was sure i wsnt going to find crappie but i definitely expected to catch fish on the eno so that skunk hurt

no matter how warm it seems water gets cold after standing in one spot for 30 mins

^^nice

I'm trying to branch into fly fishing a little but most of the people I fish with have only really used dry flies to target trout so I don't really have a lot of experience with other lures for different fish.

http://www.witn.com/home/headlines/Cold_Leads_NC_To_Halt_Harvest_Of_Speckled_Trout_113583514.html

Quote :
"North Carolina is halting the commercial and recreational harvesting of speckled trout to protect stocks of the fish.

The state Division of Marine Fisheries will institute an indefinite halt to fishing for the trout starting at noon on Friday.

Marine Fisheries Commission Chairman Rob Bizzell says the decision comes after "cold stun" events in rivers, bays and creeks along the coast.

When the trout are stunned by cold temperatures, they come to the surface to warm up, making them easy to catch.

The ban will last until at least Feb. 11, when the Marine Fisheries Commission will consider the closure at its meeting in Pine Knoll Shores.

"

I've never heard of them doing this before.

its cold out there fo' real

to me, this would make specks illegal to possess. the ncdmf only has jurisdiction over coastal waters, so you could still harvest them in inland waters. not sure what they're gonna do about joint waters.

the big problem is netters anyway, and they can't net in inland waters even under normal regulations, so this pretty much stops their destruction of the speckled trout fishery until feb 11. these cold snap trout kills wouldn't be an issue if NC would wisen the fuck up and outlaw inshore netting. all they have to do is look at what VA's netting restrictions did for their fisheries (and how much money NC is losing when folks drive from and through NC to fish in VA). but as soon as anyone mentions outlawing it, some white trash fucks at the coast will start whining about how their daddy's daddy's daddy was a netter and it's not fair.

I've caught a few bass in the pond behind my apartment, nothing huge yet this year though. There are some monster carp out there, but I know nothing about carp bait, I've been experimenting with different recipes for dough balls. Any suggestions?

I've got a few trips planned for the summer though, going to Lake Fontana with Liv4weekends, hopefully chartering a boat out of Little River, SC with some people from work, and I'd like to catch some reds in New Bern sometime. For the winter I'm hoping to get a trip up to the Chesapeake Bay

haha we never figured it out, so we would just throw out a weighted treble hook and try to hook them on the side/tail and then bring them in

for such a big fish, not much of a fight (none really), but still fun!

^Nice. That's exactly what I did this afternoon...you're right though, they are pretty lazy. The smallest bass that I've pulled out of that lake has put up more of a fight than that damn carp

I'm ready for the surf to get good. The past few times it's been nice enough to want to be out fishing the surf has been too rough to get anything to bite and the water is still too cold. Might have to wait until April.

Caught a couple bass and a turtle at Conaby Creek yesterday.
Was planning to troll for striper, but I didn't realize the Roanoke River was considered "coastal" in that area and I didn't have the coastal license.

I predict a strong white bass run from falls by Saturday this week

the forecast is crazy

I went back to New Hope Creek yesterday hopin to catch some more pickerel, I got the skunk after 4 hours of fishing, i gave the fuck up because that trail is crazy I just couldnt take it anymore i had to turnaround and leave.

anyone ever hiked Duke Forest?? I aint never seen so many bluffs you had to climb on the trail/

on a lighter note, i found this trail diary stashed in a log that people sign and leave random notes and gifts in, i left a note and one of my flies that I tied, it was a pretty nice idea i thought

at least chapel hill people have a little bit of culture

I dont think NC is putting enough capital into stewarding our gamelands, there should be enough of a presence to shut that snagging shit down

According to that map (Map 6) the Roanoke is "joint waters" where I was. Not sure if that means I needed a coastal license or not. There was a boundary marker that I thought said now entering coastal, but I might have read it wrong.

I had a good enough time casting in the creek anyway though.

that same snaggin ass nigga probably throws his trash on the ground and leaves line blowing all over the landscape. probably would be keepign way over creel limit too if he were smart enough to catch fish the RIGHT way.

i mean im heated but i see mexicans doin bull shit like this and we all think its funny to mock them for it

they leave their juglines out for days and weeks, you see emaciated catfish when you pull the shit up its not right

no reason to cause unnecessary damage to fish like that

of course a fish cant put up a fight if you snag it in the fuckin side, it cant get a direction to run

the dude at Orvis told me that the shad run up to Falls of the Neuse or some shit sometime this month

right up to the dam, he says every year they kill it there with flies from the bank he invited me along actually.

but at the same time ive heard the fishing is difficult with rocks and flow from the dam sometimes.
