I saw a short bus yesterday painted up for this date. It had 2012 with x's through it all over, and a bunch of ads for Jesus Radio.

/cool story, bro.

Quote :
"Meaning in numbers

By Camping's understanding, the Bible was dictated by God and every word and number carries a spiritual significance. He noticed that particular numbers appeared in the Bible at the same time particular themes are discussed.

The number 5, Camping concluded, equals "atonement." Ten is "completeness." Seventeen means "heaven." Camping patiently explained how he reached his conclusion for May 21, 2011.

"Christ hung on the cross April 1, 33 A.D.," he began. "Now go to April 1 of 2011 A.D., and that's 1,978 years."

Camping then multiplied 1,978 by 365.2422 days - the number of days in each solar year, not to be confused with a calendar year.

Next, Camping noted that April 1 to May 21 encompasses 51 days. Add 51 to the sum of previous multiplication total, and it equals 722,500.

Camping realized that (5 x 10 x 17) x (5 x 10 x 17) = 722,500.

Or put into words: (Atonement x Completeness x Heaven), squared.

"Five times 10 times 17 is telling you a story," Camping said. "It's the story from the time Christ made payment for your sins until you're completely saved."

So 5 months of hell and then it's all over. Big deal.

so what I'm hearing is that when gas hits 5 dollars in may, the nut-jobs will commit suicide in hysteria, and then after 5 months of financial despair, the Muslims will swoop in, and buy up the western world, in effect bringing about "the end!"

i think the 5 months is supposed to be a time where the nonbelievers can be saved.
then after that is when "time ends"...ie the nonbelievers go to hell.....

personally, many atheists are annoying as all hell because of their total conviction that there is nothing greater than themselves, but it's crap like this that helps me realize WHY they have such disdain for organized religion

fwiw, i'd consider myself an agnostic deist (which is the best term i can give to it), though i thoroughly enjoying going to the methodist church i grew up in, and a local moravian church every now and then...no matter how hard i try, the idea that there is nothing greater than myself (be it "god" or whatever) just feels wrong

Gotta love how these loonies do pathetic arithmetic games and think they're developing a real theory

It's like they vaguely understand the value in handling evidence mathematically, but they can't do anything more complicated than multiplication and they believe in fairy tales

When I was given a ride Sunday to retrieve my car from NYE I saw 5 of those buses driving around. There were a lot of people walking around away from one point so I guess they just held some sort of event.

I just shook my head and continued on.

"Rick LaCasse, who attended the September 1994 service in Alameda, said that 15 years later, his faith in Camping has only strengthened.

"Evidently, he was wrong," LaCasse allowed, "but this time it is going to happen. There was some doubt last time, but we didn't have any proofs. This time we do."

Would his opinion of Camping change if May 21, 2011, ended without incident?

"I can't even think like that," LaCasse said. "Everything is too positive right now. There's too little time to think like that.""

Of course you don't want to think about the possibility that this crack-pot is wrong. Because you've used religion all your life to think for you and thinking for yourself is sinning.

pfft, can they move it up some so we don't have to take finals? Sucks on the graduating thing... does it at least satisfy you to know you'll have spent your entire life in school?
and... does anyone have a rocket we can fly to the moon (or preferably Mars, which doesn't depend on the earth's gravitational orbit)? It only says the end of the -world-.

So I guess these folks overlook these verses in the Bible:

Matthew 24:35
Quote :
"But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only."

Acts 1:7
Quote :
"He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority."

Mark 13:32
Quote :
"But of that day and [that] hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father."

so i took a look at the eBible Fellowship website, one of the groups publishing this news. They have a pamplet of important dates in history...this is freakin funny. They put the dates for the "creation" of the world and man at 11,014 BC. I guess they don't believe in dinosaurs! They loose all credibility there.

TIMING OF IMPORTANT EVENTS IN HISTORY

11,013 BC—Creation. God created the world and man (Adam and Eve).

4990 BC—The flood of Noah’s day. All perished in a worldwide flood. Only Noah, his wife, and his 3 sons and their wives survived in the ark (6023 years from creation).

7 BC—The year Jesus Christ was born (11,006 years from creation).

33 AD—The year Jesus Christ was crucified and the church age began (11,045 years from creation; 5023 calendar years from the flood).

1988 AD—This year ended the church age and began the great tribulation period of 23 years (13,000 years from creation).

1994 AD—On September 7th, the first 2300-day period of the great tribulation came to an end and the latter rain began, commencing God’s plan to save a great multitude of people outside of the churches (13,006 years from creation).

2011 AD—On May 21st, Judgment Day will begin and the rapture (the taking up into heaven of God’s elect people) will occur at the end of the 23-year great tribulation. On
October 21st, the world will be destroyed by fire (7000 years from the flood; 13,023 years from creation).

I originally read the url as "edible fellowship".
Also, one thing I've never understood, if Jesus was crucified in 33 AD, what was so significant to rename the year system when he was 7?
