or whatever its called is like 360 million or something. so one of you math nerds answer me this. how many different number combinations are there to guarantee that you win? hundreds, thousands, millions?

im sure this has never been done before but lets pool some dollar bucks and win this.

also, how many tickets can one play and is this illegal?

Im tired of working.

I would never go in with someone else on lottery tickets unless we had an iron-clad contract beforehand regarding the payout, which would never happen either.

360M
-144M (40% tax rate) may be too high I don't know
--------
216M

If I got 100M and the other party got 116M, I wouldn't care too much.

Yeah you would. Its all relative. If you were making 100K and someone else at your level was making 116, you'd be a little miffed as well.

Right but if I got nothing b/c 1) someone ran off with the money or 2) hired some lawyer to weasel out of it I would care.

Odds are 1 in 175,711,536.
There is a decent chance that there will be multiple winners when the tickets get this high. If there was only one other winner you would make a small profit; especially when you factor in all the smaller winning tickets that you'd have. If, however, two others won you'd lose money on the endeavor.

I remember watching a documentary type TV show about a team of people who tried to buy all possible combinations for one of the major lotteries several years ago. They contracted with the owners of several gas stations to do nothing but print tickets for them all day long. One gas station backed out iirc and they ended up with an incomplete pool of tickets, but they still won.

Also, via Wikipedia:
Quote :
"In a famous occurrence, a Polish-Irish businessman named Stefan Klincewicz bought up almost all of the 1,947,792 combinations available on the Irish lottery. He and his associates paid less than one million Irish pounds while the jackpot stood at £1.7 million. There were three winning tickets, but with the "Match 4" and "Match 5" prizes, Klincewicz made a small profit overall."

they did a group buy at work but i did not participate. i felt kind of bad about it until i realized that even with 100 tickets my 0.00000006% chance of winning increases to a 0.000006% chance of winning.

in retrospect, i suppose that's still better than a 0.000000000% chance.

Lost fans won big last night: the numbers were 4 8 15 (25 47) 42, so anyone playing THE NUMBERS (25,587 people, according to the site) won $150.

lol I bet 4 8 15 16 23 42 is always the most played combination of numbers in each round.
