If we get embarrassed by this Wake team, it would pretty much rule out any signs of ability to play in the tourney.
Buzz's team may be the worst in ACC history. In his defense, he has no point guards active (the only one is injured), no Skip/Dino inherited talent, a bunch of freshmen/transfers and Ty Walker (possibly the worst 5* ever). That doesn't completely excuse the poor play. Good coaching will bring the best out of players but they look even more unorganized than we do. Checking out the recruiting class, it looks like they don't have a whole lot to look forward to either. Ron Wellman was lauded as one of the best ADs in the country as little as 5 years ago. Now a lot of fans want him burnt at the stake.
The Emon Eacons are in serious trouble. 1/6/2011 5:37:46 AM |

if we lose this game (which is 60/40), it would not be good.

i mean, i know we're not great, but we should win this one easily. sure, we have 4 losses, but we took Syracuse down to the wire, hung with GTown for a half without our best player, and have beaten all the teams we should've beaten thus far. GO PACK!

Pretty much a must win. If we lose to this terrible WF team, I don't see how this team will recover. I feel confident about this game since Tracy is back and we play at home. If we were on the road, I'd be much more worried. Thank God we get to open our ACC slate at home as it'll help the freshman.

I am worried about this game. Their best players are Gs and SFs. If we allow then to get hot from 3, much like Elon, I could see us losing this game. 1/6/2011 1:09:44 PM |

I wanted to make an addendum to my list in my previous post in defense of Buzz. He also lost Tony Woods to felony so that leaves them very little strength/experience in the frontcourt. They basically play 4 guard sets the whole game. 1/6/2011 1:15:41 PM |

Wake's "bigs" also play dirty, as usual. Refs better get control of it early, although nothing could really be worse than last night. Elon actually looked like a better team than Wake with their toughness and hustle....I've been to about 6 Wake games already this year and they absolutely suck.
I will say...they played hard and dirty against Gonzaga last week to keep it close. Typical. They usually wouldn't get away with the crap they pulled on them down low but they are playing AT NC State, the one team in the country who gets fucked by the refs on their home floor with consistency. 1/6/2011 1:54:11 PM |

Obviously a must win, wake has had a few close games against good teams lately but also a bizarre loss to presbyterian.
They are better than our competition of late but not a whole lot better.
This is a good way to ease into the ACC schedule before three big road tests. 1/7/2011 9:18:44 AM |

Harrow's role works for Wolfpack
Quote : | "Freshman guard Ryan Harrow leads N.C. State in scoring but hasn't started a game yet this season.
Harrow has scored at 12 points in each of the past three games and five of seven to boost his average to 11.3 points per game. His minutes are up in the past three games but Wolfpack coach Sidney Lowe wasn't ready to say if he would move Harrow into the starting lineup for Saturday's ACC opener against Wake Forest.
Lowe likes the way Harrow gets a chance to watch the beginning of the game, with senior Javier Gonzalez starting at point guard, and gets a chance to get a feel for the game.
"What I like is that it works," Lowe said of Harrow coming off the bench, usually after the first television timeout at the 16-minute mark.
Harrow has played more minutes than Gonzalez for three straight games. Harrow has put up 14, 12 and 18 points, respectively, in State's wins over Alabama A&M, San Diego and Elon. Gonzalez has scored 5, 4 and 2 points, respectively, in the three-game span.
Harrow hasn't cracked the starting lineup yet, though. Lowe, as he often does, said it's more important to finish the game, which Harrow has, than to start.
"Ryan understands the big picture," Lowe said.
Harrow has averaged 24.3 minutes in the three-game stretch, to 15.6 for Gonzalez, and has 12 assists with seven turnovers. Gonzalez has posted three assists with five turnovers.
State fell behind Elon by 10 points, twice in the first half, with Harrow steadying the offense with nine points to keep the score close (41-37) at the half.
Gonzalez, who was third on the team in scoring last season, has seen his point production drop to 5.7 points per game, from 9.5 last season. He has had only two games in double figures in 14 nonconference games this season, compared to eight double-digit nonconference games last season. " |

I'm excited for us to finally start ACC play and this is the ideal game to open with. A home court match up against likely the worst ACC team in years is something we can hopefully take advantage of. Harrow is starting to wrestle the job away from javi and if he's the better pg then that's definitely what we want.
However, so far harrow has clearly been a better weapon against inferior opponents but not clearly better against the good teams
I like the balance we have right now and hopefully one or both step it up this year 1/7/2011 4:36:31 PM |
