I'm gonna start with Treet. I thought it would just be like a cheaper Spam, but no, it's freaking disgusting. It also smells like dog food, and it even has that little blob of brown/yellow congealed fat that's always in cans of dog food.

So basically, it's not a treat at all.

AndyMac. Sounds like a new version of Mac n Cheese, perhaps with funky shaped pasta. Actually a student at NC State. I was wrong.

And are you sure Treet isn't something for dogs?

It was next to the Spam, but man I don't know. I know for sure it doesn't taste like "traditional baked ham" like it claims on the package.

And I've got 6 12 ounce cans of it becasue it was on sale at food lion. The price (2 cans for $1.50) should have tipped me off.

Treet. I've never heard of it or seen it before, so just based off the name I'd say it was some sort of dog biscuit. Give your dog it's treet.

Edit:

I remember in elementary school, they took us to the Neese's factory

After that, I begged my mom to buy me some Neese's liver pudding b/c it looked cool how they made it

then I tried it

I actually like liver pudding if you fry it long enough to be crispy.

I also like Spam in certain situations, which is why I bought all that freaking dog food spam-like product.

Filet Mignon.
You think you're getting a fillet of this Mignon fish when BAM! they bring out this cute little steak that turns out to be quite tasty so you don't complain to the waitstaff.

I came in here to post sweetbreads or mincemeat but, alas, they're taken. So:

Jerusalem Artichoke
Salsify
Geoduck

On a related note I always mix up the names of orzo and ouzo. Tiny pasta != Greek anise-flavored liqour.

I heard/read these as a kid:

Sweetbread: Thought it was type of a bread, but turned out to be an animal organs.
Mincemeat: Thought it was animal flesh, but turned out to be chopped fruit.
Black pudding: Thought it was a dessert, but turned out to be a sausage-like food mainly made of pig's blood

I was really confused :-/

Only the middle one's name makes sense.

I would like to add ^ to my list. When I 1st heard about it, I was in the UK, and was excited because English desserts are amazing. When I found out what it was, I was disgusted.

What's even more confusing is that Brits call all desserts 'pudding' ("What's for pudding today?"), so when you specifically hear pudding you fucking expect it to be a dessert.

Did you read about "black pudding" in my post a little above?

Yorkshire pudding isn't disgusting, it's just not pudding.

[Edited on January 7, 2011 at 5:56 PM. Reason : I've made them before and put sausage and cheese in them, its really good.]
