Anyone done this or had any trouble with it? I plugged mine into mah router, but it's still not registering a connection. DirecTV simply told the gf that "the router is the problem" but didn't really expound on the issue.

I want to download Dexter, plz halp

In most cases it just works. There *may* be some ports that need to be forwarded. Also, it takes about 24 hours from the time its connected before all of the On-Demand features become available.

[Edited on January 6, 2011 at 4:14 PM. Reason : Just checked, and there shouldn't be any need to forward ports. Does it get an IP address?]

will post again from home. I think it did. But when I did the internet check there was an error (googling it didn't help me). I'll publish it, too, when I get home.

ok, error code is 70-73-770, network not found. I'm sure I've got it plugged into the right places on the DVR and router, and I am positive the ethernet cord is good.

DVR looks like it's getting an address, but it's definitely not on my routers NAT subnet, it's not getting my outward facing address either. It's not picking up gateway or dns information, probably because it's not getting a valid IP, I'l try to manually put in an IP and see what happens

Tried manually entering IP, gateway, DNS... Passes network tests, but now I'm getting a coax not connected error That doesn't make any damn sense

OK, resetting the receiver forces it to switch to using its ethernet card instead of its DECA something something. When I manually gave it an IP on my subnet, and made the gateway and DNS server my router it started working. I'm connected now, thanks.

Do you have whole home DVR?

I tried using an ethernet bridge because my router is upstairs and the damn thing will not work with the Directv HR 24 box at all. It works with my xbox and laptop with no problem but the Directv box will not accept it. Its infuriating to be told by Directv that I must buy their bullshit DECA equipment. I refuse. I'm not buying another god damn attachment for Directv. I will wait for the next DVR box to come out that is capable of using ethernet adapters and bridges before I do that.

No, I don't have whole home DVR. The internet searchings I did specifically said that whole home setups can't work with ethernet cables, so you do have to use the DECA equipment for that...

Sorry boss

My dad hooked up his Directv DVR to his router and it just worked for a couple of months. Then one day it just stopped for no apparent reason. I couldn't figure out what changed for the life of me. He never ended up using any of the Internet stuff when it did work though, so he didn't press me too hard to figure out how to get it working again.

And then just tonight I was visiting my parents house and I accidentally hit the internet button on their DVR and it's connected again.

/useless but on-topic follow-up.
