I really need to find a part time job, possibly full time if hours are flexible. Careerbuilder is filled with work from home and paid survey listings, are there any good places to check? Google just returns the same work from home type stuff.

Anyone had any luck with any of the job websites?

If you really want part time work it does not hurt to hit places of interest in person with resumes in hand. Many part time jobs are not as formal of an application process as full time. Rolling up nicely dressed and asking for the manager may serve you well.

Also I am not sure what kind of work you are looking for but retail you can forget this time of year, businesses cut back to bare bones staffing since their customers are recovering from holiday spending.

I've never done food service and would prefer to not, but I'm open to anything. Part of my problem is not really knowing where to try since retail is dead in January.

Landscaping companies, garbage/waste companies, skilled apprentices (painting, masonry, plumbing, electrical) are all areas you can pretty easily get a part time job as long as:

You are willing to work
You aren't a complete moron

Pay is a lot better than a shitty food service job too.

There are plenty of part-time jobs around town. Just drive around town and look for the "hiring now" signs. I know Bed Bath and Beyond at Crossroads had one up last week.

You have the same problem my soon-to-be-ex-roommate does: he has an ego about what work he should and shouldn't do. Most people's college jobs revolved around food service; I made decent money being a server.
You can make even more being a barback or a bartender.

Additionally, have you looked into delivery jobs like moving? Most employers will pay for a CDL, or you can always be the dude who moves the furniture.

i actually found a pretty sweet job by posting my resume on craigslist, of all places. after 3 or 4 spam posts i had a serious reply. it's a project engineer position that pays more than double any other part-time job anyone could think of and works well with my courses and research.
