are textbooks so damn expensive all of a sudden?

at state, I never spent more than $300 on textbooks per semester. This spring, I've gotta pay nearly $1000 for books for THREE classes. Retarded.

^^^ it's actually a second BS. Grad school books weren't cheap when I needed them, but never quite this bad.

And this is the "find them cheaper" option. New or from the bookstore would be well over 1200.

waaaaaaa. somebody give me money. pretty please??

I happen to be in a position to loan you some money, and I will happily do so.

unfortunately, I also find you very attractive. so in order to secure this loan, you would have to do things with me in the bedroom that would traumatize you for years. YEARS!

I'm so sorry aea

No, I did not know that.

Unfortunately, that makes me even more attracted to you. Now, the loan is interest free....

On a serious note, sorry your books are so expensive. I hated that shit too. I do remember getting free books for some classes a few semesters though. As in, I was buddies with the professor for that class (who taught the class every semester). Every semester, the professor gets a free book anyway for teaching, so they just gave that ish to me. Might want to look into it.

I actually would love to have that kind of relationship with my professors, especially since I'd like to do some research with a few of them. But it's my first semester at (yet another) new school, and I'd hate to try and get a free loaner copy from one of them without ever having worked with them before.

I'm thinking if I bite the bullet and spend the money for this spring, and put in a lot of face time with the department, it'll pay off and hopefully I can just get books through the department the rest of my time here, like I did at CofC. Maybe they'll even hire me too

advanced education changes relatively quickly. It costs a shitton to keep updated because much of the information will be obsolete after 4 years.

also see inflation
also see competition

The money has to be worth the time, energy, resources, complaints/misinformation/typos/updates/revisions, etc... the authors put into it.

oh, I see.

Yeah, I did at lot of research of these professor's labs back in the day.... and had them for a few classes.... and was a TA for some of their courses. They knew my ass.

aha, I actually still call them every year as the summer is approaching, and ask if they have any students that want to intern with me at Lockheed
I love interns. You don't have to pay them shit

^^ is that why the new editions put out have hardly any changes in them, except for the problems to be worked?

actually, I think it has more to do with the fact that the customer-base is very restricted

so they have to charge a shit-ton to make any sort of profit

You can get them for free with a public library card, you just have to point at it with your gun.
