A new year, a new opportunity to document quotes from people you disagree with...

Quote :
"Ah, yes. On a public road that I'm forced to subsidize, in a country that I never agreed to be a citizen of. Somehow, that doesn't bother me. Your argument here is "the law is right because it's the law," and frankly, it's what I've come to expect from you."

These threads don't have to be just quotes from people you disagree with. Maybe that has been what they were recently, but in the past they had both humor and well worded and insightful comments too.

Should we qualify the quotes we use? Like:

DISAGREE

Quote :
"Mission accomplished, Sarah Palin"

That's not reality. That falls into the category of "there are the way things are, and then there are the way things should be."

You can scream until you're blue in the face that ____ is not a crime because it isn't hurting anything, but you're wrong.

Definitely. It is not reality. It should be, though.

Oh sweet, we're doing the "post things you disagree with" quotes thing.

You don't directly gain dollars from an investment. If I own IBM and it goes up 5 points, I have no more dollars than I did before until I sell it, if I wait one year on my savings account, SURPRISE! I have more dollars. Do you see what "direct" means?

Yeah, some of the voices have been telling me that recently as well.

Is that sentence correct? Seems like there should be a comma before 'as well'. Maybe it should end with 'recently' instead. Someone didn't pay enough attention in school. Shut up I'm asking them. They're smarter than you are anyway. Yes they are. Stupid. stupid stupid

^^^^ I just discovered I'm echoing Hayek and have never read him (directly, at least)...

The concept of spontaneous order is pretty intuitive. So-called intellectuals deny its legitimacy, claiming that they can engineer the economy to maximize growth. They are, as you mentioned, supremely arrogant.

"Norway has the right idea. They're basically saving most of their oil, either in reserves or in the ground, until after peak oil hits and the price of it goes way up, and importing in the meantime. When things get hairy oil-wise, they'll have their choice of either using up their reserves internally or selling them at exorbitant prices."

- Str8Foolish

I've been thinking to myself, "could I come up with a statement about Norway and oil that is more wrong?"

No, I don't think I could.
