I've heard a lot of options:

Son of Hel, the daughter of Loki and ruler of the underworld.

The act of accepting stolen goods.

Homeopathic or faith healer (NOT a doctor).

Is your name cool?

Quote :
"This unusual and interesting surname is derived from the Middle English, Old French given name "Aubri", itself coming from the Germanic personal name "Alberic", composed of the elements "alb" meaning elf plus "ric", power, hence, "elf-ruler". It may also come from the much rarer female name "Albreda", composed of the Germanic elements "alb", plus "red", counsel, "elf-counsel". Finally, it may be derived from the Olde English pre 7th Century personal name "Aelfric", composed of the elements "oelf", elf, plus "ric" meaning kingdom, hence "elf-kingdom". The surname dates back to the late 13th Century."

Honestly, the thing that I think of when I see my last name is the f'ing Death Eater from HP. >_>

the real point of this thread is to make sure people see how awesome MY name is

I'm either a Norse demi-god (or more likely the descendant of a chieftain), a shaman, or a fence for crime.

Original family surname: Williston - English or Scottish: unexplained. This has the form of a habitational name, but no such place has been identified. It may be an altered form of Willison, or possibly a habitational name from Willesden, now part of North London.

Current: Willis - English: patronymic from the personal name Will.

Dweller near pagan temple... so yeah, my ancestors were the most boring pieces of shit ever. The most noteworthy thing they did was live next to the pagans. Not even cool enough to be pagans, just lived next to where they gathered

After doing a quick search through a bunch of websites, I've determined the internet is dumb. A couple sites didn't even have my last name as an option and the others all had VERY different meanings from each other. One of the places even had the wrong country of origin.

I'll have to go home and break out our family book that has all the history, crest, etc. sometime soon b/c now I'm curious. It even has names and addresses of all the families in the US! (Yes, my last name is that uncommon that we can have a directory haha!)

First name means king of elves, or elf noble (or ruling with elf-wisdom?) so I guess that means I'm supposed to be a high elf of some nerdy sort. Nerd nerd nerd nerd nerd...
