Is this honestly worth my time if I genuinely want to learn some new tech skills? Would potential future employers laugh in my face if I have a certification from this?

It's pretty simple stuff that you could learn on your own, although it may be easier if you are learning with a small and dedicated community; this is nothing like the Microsoft or Cisco certification courses, where you have to learn quite a bit of difficult material (and pay a lot of money) to pass some major test (which takes some more money).

Actually, sometimes the proposer of a course did so to assist his or her own learning of the subject while other people join in the fun; also there currently have not been established any credentials at all, although Mozilla Drumbeat is still taking recommendations for what it calls "badges"

Basically, you don't pay anything, you don't learn anything difficult, and you shouldn't get in for the sake of credentialism, just if you want to learn something along with a small group of people; there is usually a sign-up task for each course to ensure that you possess the pre-requisite knowledge, and classes start on the 26th.
