It's MOP inlayed in titanium. I'm not a huge MOP fan, but he works with it well, it's very difficult shit to work with.

Check out the Wrinkles he did, the three on the bottom left (That's the name of the knife model, "Wrinkle"). Those are titanium handles, he machines them to have that look. His knives cost thousands on the secondary market dude. Really high end work.

He once checked his bag at an airport, it contained his work. When he got off the plane and picked it up at his destination it was empty. Someone probably recognized his name on the bag, knew to look. Obtained like $15,000+ in knives. Ken Onion didn't make that mistake again.

I'd argue that you don't know what sharp is until you've handled a custom by someone who really knows what they're doing. There is a lot more to cutting than just the edge. A sharp edge on a knife with bad geometry still wont cut well. Yet another knife may have an edge that doesn't "feel" or "look" as sharp (To an inexperienced person at least), but will cut the shit out of some stuff because of the grinds and how they interface with the secondary grind (ie - the edge).

Kyley Harris' knives are so sharp it's ridiculous. Same with Sean Kendrick. My zero chisel ground Bastard Samurai is frightening. There is just one grind that goes all the way to the edge, no secondary angle at the edge. It's a flesh chisel, extremely dangerous. Like if you dropped it and tried to catch it, you'd be done using that hand.

its only valuable if you have a buyer. don't get me wrong, they are sharp looking knives, but i guaran-damn-tee they aren't worth thousands to me.

Um, why do you think it's worth thousands on the secondary market when he doesn't charge anywhere near that much if you buy it directly from him?

It's amazing how many people tell me this same thing "It's only valuable if you have a buyer". Do you really think you're informing me of something I'm not aware of? This is such an elementary concept I don't even know why people mention it. I really don't get why you'd think you were saying something that people don't already know.

The reason his knives are worth thousands is due to this concept called supply and demand. There is high demand for his work, yet the work is in short supply. This drives the cost up. The end result is that people buy and sell Ken Onion knives for thousands of dollars. If there were no buyers, they wouldn't be worth thousands of dollars.....

This is why two Jens Anso knives were sold in a few hours this week at knifeart.com for $900 a piece. This is why you see Mick Strider customs selling for $2000+ on a regular basis. The ones in the $1200 range are usually gone in a couple hours dude. You can't keep them in stock, they simply go away. This drives the price up higher and higher because people realize they can get more money for them. I'm telling you, custom knives, if they're from the right person, gain a lot of value. It usually peaks at some point, but a few of my knives have gained hundreds in value based on current market prices. This is because I was lucky enough to obtain them directly from the maker at shows.
