I have not ever seen more bandwagon fans than those of the Pittsburgh Steelers. There's no way all these people migrated down here from western Pennsylvania. The abundance of young bandwagoners doesn't make sense since the industry in that area has been gone for about 20 years, unless kids are getting it from their parents.

My new work place is infested with Steelers fans. Although all the ones I've talked to seem to actually be from the Pittsburgh area. But GODDAMN they are everywhere.

I am in no way from Pittsburgh, but I am fan because I have been to 4 Steelers games (3 in Pittsburgh, and one here in NC). My ex's family was from there and took me to the games. Also, my family didn't care much for football as I was growing up so I adopted them.

I've never met a Pittsburgh fan without connection to Western or at least Central PA.

When people cheer for winning teams, it makes them feel like they're actually winners as well. It's why most bandwagons fans/frontrunners are losers & douches

No we're losers and douchebags that are fine with feeling like losers and douchebags.

The only difference is that bandwagon fans want to feel like winners.

You're kidding, right?

Tons of them have moved down here. Same thing as all those people from Buffalo.

Also: if you are one of them and love Pittsburgh so damn much, go back there.

you'd be surprised. when i lived in Erie, PA for 2 years, everybody in town knew where Cary was, b/c some company up there had relocated to Cary

LOTS of outward migration from the rust belt in the last couple decades

If I didn't root for the Steelers my family would disown me. They are from Pittsburgh though so I wouldn't call them bandwagon fans.

that article AndyMac posted explains a lot. good read.

Twista, all of those teams you listed are from large markets to begin with, so it's easier to see why their fans are more far reaching

look. I grew up in NC and experience bandwagon UNC fans on a daily basis. I have been to plenty of other states and experienced the vastness of the UNC bandwagon.

I'm talking about professional sports here

And to add a point to the Hater's Guide:

Watch any NFL draft. As soon as the Steelers are on the clock and draft someone, doesn't matter who they draft--could be a 7th round back-up kick holder, you'll invariably hear the commentator go "well now that's just a Steeler's pick right there if I've ever seen one."

Bit extreme of an example but i'll put it like this - there are 32 teams in the NFL and they all have a 1st round pick. They probably split 50/50 in terms of drafting offense and defense. Yet when the Steelers pick up some DE or LB all you hear is "and that's just what they do, that's a Steelers pick."

That's not a Steelers pick. That's an NFL pick. That's what you do.

my ex is from Pittsburgh. While her loyalty is unquestionable, the team isn't worthy of the nationwide fan base.

Go Broncos.

My one and only comment on the issue: As a true Steeler fan (aka from outside Pittsburgh, travel back to games 2-3x a year, have AFC Championship tickets...should the JETS somehow pull a miracle), the bandwagon fans probably annoy me even more than they annoy you guys.

I'm seriously torn sometimes whether I'd rather have 10 years of 2-14 seasons to shed some of this dead weight from our fanbase. You would have thought that the late 80s would have done that though. Oh well.

But seriously, for the past 20 years there's been a pipeline from western PA to NC. Kinda crazy. So, yeah.

Go Steelers.

Sports aren't something I'm able to get into. I respect the decision to enjoy them though son. Not sure I understand the rabid fans, but that's cool.

Yeah, sometimes I wonder what percentage of UNC fans couldn't even point to NC on a map.

Oh dude, I've run into fools with UNC shirts in all kinds of places. I've noticed that a lot of ghetto people in random cities seem to enjoy UNC clothing.

^I just got back from Mexico, and I couldnt count the number of UNC shirts I saw.

Of course, it could just be they needed clothes, but I'd still like to think they are douches.
