I had really good experiences with Wildwoods of Lake Johnson. It's a great location, right off the Jones Franklin 440 exit. Right next to the walking/jogging trails off Lake Johnson. Very wooded feeling. At least 3 or 4 of my friends lived there too. 1/16/2011 9:38:03 AM |

We moved out of there in October. GOOD RIDDANCE. Do not recommend. Granted they were trying to make it nicer when I left, but the quality of tenants made that sort of futile.

^ and there is also a little group of high schoolers who have no respect for personal property and will mill around in the parking lot and lean/sit on your car.
The quality of tenant was definitely going down hill when we moved. Bass was thumping from all directions at all hours and would continue even after you went over and politely asked they shut it off and even after I not so politely asked that they shut it off.
It took Skwinkle calling the police one time before this one guy who played bass in his SUV in the parking lot for like an hour+ a day to stop. It would literally shake the walls.
Also, get ready to get fucked when you move out because the management tries to charge you for bogus 'damages'.

I enjoyed my couple of years living in Olde Raleigh on Duraleigh, about a mile from Edwards Mill Rd. I think I paid around $700-$800 for a 950 sqft 2br/2bath apt.
That was a few years ago, so it has probably gone up. 1/18/2011 4:58:52 PM |

i really hope and pray you are kidding. that place is horrible, strait up ghetto. Had our apt broke into and they stole everything (there was about 3 or 4 break ins that weekend), and 3 bikes stolen off of our back porch, including one during the middle of the day.
that said, I now live at Gorman Crossings through Trinity Properties. I have only been living here a few months but I love it. I pay 675 for a 2 BR townhouse. Its been completely renovated and includes a new washer/dryer. And the maintenance people are great, most incredible i've ever seen. Its at the corner of avent ferry/gorman, so its really close to campus1/18/2011 5:17:41 PM |

Wildwoods seemed nice. Knew several people that lived out there.
Also you could check out the complexes on Hillsborough going toward downtown--Cameron Court, Grosvenor Gardens, Boylan Apts, Shelton Arms, and St. Mary's Apts. All older buildings built in the 30's and 40's, and as such are going to have hardwood floors, nice big windows, and a lot of character (both good and bad). Green spaces, mature trees, and walkable both to NCSU and to downtown. They have their drawbacks--limited parking, laundry rooms rather than in-unit washers and dryers, older appliances in some cases--but pretty cool just the same.
There are also the Cameron Village Condos, in between CV, Broughton, and St. Mary's street. Most of them are owner-occupied but you can find rentals now and again. Nice area, hardwood floors, reasonably spacious. 1/18/2011 5:54:53 PM |

Yeah sounds like things have changed since you've lived there. We haven't had any problems with other tenants other than this stupid bitch that moved in next to us but we got her taken care of real quick. Whenever we've put in a maintenance order it's been done the next day. I've been pretty surprised at the speed they get things done to be honest.1/19/2011 9:11:28 AM |

I doubt that much has changed in the last two months. It's possible we were in a bad section of the complex, or you are in a good section. The lower part down by the pool seems like it's a ton better than the upper part where I was.
They always came out for maintenance requests the next day, but many times would leave a note with the equivalent of "that wasn't actually broken" when it really was. When I moved in I didn't have a cabinet door on my hall bathroom cabinet for 3 months because when I moved in the maintenance guy said they had ordered new ones and they would be replaced in 6 weeks when they came in. I checked with them 6 weeks later and they hadn't ordered anything. My guest toilet was broken the entire time I lived there and overflowed all the time because whenever I put in an order they just snaked the line and wouldn't admit anything worse was wrong with it. On my move-in sheet I noted "fraying around edges of carpet" on every single room, and they still tried to claim that all the carpet was brand new when I moved in and wanted to charge me $1,000 just for carpet. That's just off the top of my head. I sincerely hope your experience continues to be better than mine. 1/19/2011 9:27:26 AM |

Lived there for 4.5yrs. It's not a college complex, though there are college students that live there. Also, they have fairly large 2bdrms (1200+sqft) and a nice pool that isn't just a hole in the concrete. 1/19/2011 9:36:50 AM |

Really have to rep Blue Ridge Apartments.
The apartments themselves are super nice, almost brand new, and fairly affordable (440 per room base, 2 bedrooms).
At it's front door is the Westgrove Park and Ride bus, which is timed and reliable.
Easy to the beltline, downtown, et cetera.
Although I will note, if you need a really nice non-NCSU gym, you'd have to use Preiss's and nice it is not. This is the only apartment complex property that Preiss manages, but does not own, which makes a huge difference in quality (it's so much nicer than any other Preiss place, you'd never think they had ever so much as looked at it). 4/24/2011 9:30:32 PM |

Hidden oaks and hyde park have gone to shit from what I've gathered from friends, based on Skwinkle and Shinte's experiences.
I had a friend live in (the) Ashborough off Dillard and absolutely love it, and Shinte almost moved there. Its about $800 a month though for like a 1 bedroom, not sure what other prices are. If I was going to live in the area I would seriously look into it. 4/24/2011 10:20:57 PM |

the ashborough is too far from things for me to pay $800 a month. i can afford that, but i can get a place downtown for that. ideally i'm hoping to stick to around $600/month too since i'll be living out of hotels a lot anyways.
plus its too close to the gf 4/24/2011 10:34:57 PM |
