Vinylbandit doesn't like any music, because if he liked a band then that band has at least one fan, making their music entirely too mainstream for his tastes.

You know, this thread has turned into a vehicle for pushing shitty music upon the population of this website.

Not that I have a problem with this. Most people here deserve the shitty music because they have HORRIBLE taste in it anyway.

its like...i like music and all...but i have no motive to do all this scrounging around for obscure bands...i have no idea where you hear about this stuff. i guess its easier to do with the internet.

i don't do much scrounging

i go to a lot of shows, read about music, and have a lot of friends in the music industry

you hear about a lot of good shit if you have friends with good taste

for example, walk into any record store in the country and ask for okkervil river

chances are they'll have it, and if they don't, they'll definitely know what it is

^^Thats because you have terrible taste in metal, which means you probably have terrible taste in music also. As proven by the fact that you use pandora.

Metalcore as a whole is a pretty shameful genre. Chimaira is borderline respectable.

I'm not going to lie, I use pandora on my phone at work, wish i still had my ipod.

I liked NoFX (back before they ran out of good ideas), Crass and Bad Brains when i was 13.

Somehow i've never liked shitty music, but i guess its probably because my parents always listened to christian radio or NPR, so rarely heard like billboard shit although there is good music in there.

Also, I keep reading this thread as "post-music."

I then wonder if you're a fan of post-metal (i.e. Isis, Pelican) or post-rock. Post punk should be a safe bet.

Post-punk is a safe bet.

I like some post-rock, but it's on an individual basis. I love dearly the entirety of Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven, for example, but I'm meh on the rest of the GYBE! catalog and I don't like A Silver Mt. Zion very much at all.

Not familiar with a lot of post-metal, though I like super sludgey stuff like Ocean and SunnO))))))kscjdifur9f.

great quote.

kind of boring to me. There are definitely much, much worse bands you could be listening to though. However it should also be noted that I've simply gotten extremely picky and cynical when it comes to metal. For example, instead of listening to After the Burial I'd rather just listen to some of the good Meshuggah content.

I think for me it really comes down to all the shows I played between 2003-2008 when CTA was playing out a lot. The more shows I played, the more metal bands we played with who all either a) sounded exactly like someone else b) were just plain mailing it in c) playing metal-by-numbers. Subsequently the more I got sick of metal. I'd say that over half of the shows we played during the last few years we were active live had a lineup where I maybe liked one other band on the bill and still more where I disliked every other band on the bill

Isis - Ghost Key Wavering Radiant is an unbelievably good album. Not quite as sludgey as SunnO))))))))). Aaron Turner is a genius.

Irepress - Samus
Quality stuff, a bit more progressive than Isis.
