I have eight different bosses right now. So that means when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled, that, and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired.

i honestly have no idea who my direct report boss is any more. any given day, week, or month i may be working for:
Product Engineering Director
Application Engineering Director
Engineering VP
Quality VP
Operations VP
Outside Sales VP

with an occasional favor to the CFO, US CEO, an European CEO thrown in just to mix it up a little.

In my operation, I've got my department head, and I sometimes report to 3 other higher-up supervisors and their manager. My department head and the other head manager have bosses up the line in corporate.

as of today i do not have a boss, as in a direct report.

i guess i have my old boss' boss to report to... sorta.

but i've only ever met him twice.

no replacement has yet to even be interviewed.

not that it matters much, or that ive ever really needed a direct boss.

i can figure out what needs to be done.
