My family would kill me and the person I was dating.

I have 4 brothers and they hate all men. Anything outside of white would send them over the edge. These are people that have confederate flags all over the place and way too many guns. They are so white, they make fun of me for having injun blood.

I've had a guy that was into me until I told them I dated a black guy once.
One guy (that was "friend" not a romantic interest) told me that I should probably keep the fact that I have been with black guys to myself because most white men will look at me differently once they know.

I've also had a man tell me that I'm "worse than a nigger" because I'm a "nigger lover."

My parents also frowned upon the idea...at least my mom did, my dad either was totally ignorant to the fact that I was dating a black guy or was just didn't want to admit it to himself.

But it's been a while since I've heard anything more, could also be because it's been awhile since I've been with a black guy.

Having only lived in the south for ~2 years, I'm constantly astounded when I hear stories like the ones in this thread. What's more amazing to me though, is how many people are completely racist, but hide it until some random race related thing comes up.

My friend's sister (who is very hot) is marrying a black guy who is significantly older than her. Her mom was pretty upset initially. Her dad was like "whatever makes you happy, as long as he's a good guy." Her grandparents were stunned.

While I was dating this guy, my grandparents didn't know about it.

We were on a family vacation at the beach and the three granddaughters all got very good tans. Our grandfather said to us, if you keep getting too dark I might have to disown you. My cousins and I looked at each other, all thinking the same thing. "Sarah is dating a black guy"

Once I told my mother that there was a girl I liked, and he was half black half white. My father flipped out. He was like, THINK ABOUT THE REPERCUSSIONS OF HAVING A BLACK WIFE! I was pretty close friends with a white girl in HS, and even got pretty close to her family. Senior year we started dating, and her dad, who was always cool as hell to me suddenly changed his tune and told me he didn't want his daughter dating a sand-nigger.

After all, when the great migration of blacks to the north happened, they basically invented blockbusting, white flight, and redlining.

i briefly dated a guy who told me that he would be disgusted if he knew i had ever had sex with a black guy. i told him i hadn't, but i had kissed a few, and he was pretty visibly disgusted by that. needless to say that relationship ended fairly quickly.

my parents don't care about things like that, and neither do any of my family--that i know of. the only thing i can think of my extended family ever being offended over is my lack of participation in organized religion. when i was much younger i thought my parents were racist simply because a lot of my friends' parents were outspoken about it. when i finally asked them they set me straight and made me feel pretty bad for even thinking that.

^ and ^^^ No, they don't hide it up here. The racism here is just not strictly a black-white issue. there are plenty of indian, other middle-eastern, and asian people, and a LOT of people from each race hates people from another, and openly display such feelings.

The fact that so many northerners think the south is full of inbred racists, after the way I've seen them behave, truly astounds me.

I have never dated a black guy, but then I don't find black guys attractive.

I was however once engaged to a white/korean guy. My family had no problem at all except my aunt who told me that my grandfather was rolling over in his grave.

I think my dad wouldn't care, but my mom would if I was attracted to and dated a black guy. I think it would have alot to do with his education and manners too.

My uncle on my mom's side is black, but not very dark. The first time he came to thanksgiving we were worried what my g'ma would say. She didn't even realize he was black

My dad is in his late 60s and he's from the New York area. I wouldn't consider him racist compared to the stuff I'm reading here, but he will randomly say things that sound a little insensitive or not politically correct. My mom knows a lady from church who is married to a black guy (who is like straight from Africa type of deal). Their daughter, whom I've met, is light skinned but would still be identified as black. My dad one day mentioned how the daughter was "lucky" that "she didn't get all the black features."
