It doesn't look like this was determined by any mathematical means.

It looks like someone took a picture they like, then blurred the edges with a few other photos, and called it an "average."

I think the image refers to more specific ethnicities (like the "average South African" referrs to the Afrikaners rather than the indigenous people)

If you "average" the features of any two people, the result is normally better looking than either (barring model + fugly averages). Doing this for a race should result in some nice looking people.

you do realize that "average" is attractive?


so mathematically an attracive woman has *this much* space between her nose and her upper lip, and *this much* space between her eyes, and lips that are plump but not to big, a nose that is not to small but not too big etc etc. you get the point.


now think of the "average woman" to you. she's probably not gorgeous right? lets say that her forehead is to big and her nose is too small.....now "average her with another different average woman. lets say this woman's nose is too wide, lips are too small, and and theres too much space between the eyes.
when you average the two women together the others "good" features with counteract with the bad features and make the bad not so bad. is-the woman above with have only a slight 5head, a normal nose, slightly wideset eyes, and slightly small lips.
add it to a third woman who has eyes that are unusally big, and once again another big nose.
now you'll have someone with a normal forehead, large normal set eyes, and a slightly big nose.


unless you are talking about some VERY ugly woman (which there are a few out there) most of the average women only have a few features "wrong" and a lot of features right. alot of women will have a normal size nose than the percentage that has a huge or small one.



this is long winded but the tl:dr version: the law of averages with faces should be attractive

i'll see if i can a portion of the natgeo show i watched abotu this
