Needed to be one. Any league bowlers or people that bowl somewhat consistently on TWW?

sure.

nobody's looking at this thread so I'll turn it into a blog for now.

going tomorrow to get fitted for a new ball because mine's six years old and the league I'm playing in likes to use really heavy oil.

thinking about an Ebonite Vital Sign

or a Hammer Taboo

Been playing a lot of candle pin since I moved up north. Shit is frustrating, but I have a good time. I think my high was like 101 though. Can't quite get consistent enough with where I throw it.

I really like bowling. I hardly ever go.

Two questions about this thread. What oil are you talking about? Like on the lane itself? And what is candle pin?

I bowl on monday nights at South Hills in Cary if you are looking to get in some free practice, they are always in need of subs. I'm pretty sure it's a guaranteed league, so you won't have to pay if you sub...(i think) Or if you have someone you can bring it's two person teams and we have room to add a team.

$1 Natural Light Drafts (i wouldn't drink it if it wasn't $1)

League Rewards card gets you
20% of snack bar
3 free games a week
free practice session from 4-6pm every friday

Gonna start looking to bowl some tournaments here pretty soon. I shot one in goldsboro two weeks ago with a RIDICULOUS oil pattern i will have to upload the graph and post it. the top 20 cut after 100 bowlers was avg 195...

AMF Durham has a monthly king of the hill tourney that is handicap 90% of 210 i think. I'll see if any of you are interested this month....

I just got back into bowling after taking 4 years off. I'm avg right at 210 now. Just bought my first new ball in 10 years, Columbia 300 Pure Swing.

I've rolled 2 sanctioned 300 games, high series 787....

^^The oil is on the lanes and candlepin is bowling with much more narrow pins, a smaller ball, and the pins aren't cleared until after the second time.

Damn man, those are some impressive stats. I started bowling as a freshmen at State and I bowled several times a week to practice because it was "internet bowling" i.e. you just had to show up the one day and bowl. I played pretty sporadically after that because I couldn't find friends that want to go consistently but now I'm in a league that just started at Pleasant Valley on Thursdays. My high is like 250 or something like that and I've never been in a tourney. I'd say my average is about 175 without handicaps but hopefully I can improve that.

I'd be down for the Monday league but I have class that night unfortunately. I have the AMF card so I can get the $1.49 games now so I'll be getting a lot more practice in soon.

The ball I have now is some cheap entry level Ebonite and it resin has mostly worn off so I'm gonna try to get one that will grip on heavy oil better because I normally bowl at South Hills (cheap) but was blown away with how much oil they used in Pleasant Valley. One guy said it's the toughest lanes to play in Raleigh

I bowled for a couple years at NC State. It was a hell of a lot of fun to travel to the tournaments and hang out with other schools. It really sucked though because i had to work to pay for school at the time so i really couldn't take full advantage of the free practice and coaching. DEF REGRET THAT b/c i was on the verge of really breaking out and trying to make a real career out of it....

I league bowl Tues nights at the AMF near Duraleigh. It's my fourth league and I'm slowly learning to throw a hook. I bowl with my friend's old Hammer and I finally threw my first clean game two weeks ago. I'm only averaging 130 though so I really need to practice more outside of league. It's fun though. Something nice to break up the week and you get to meet some new people. As of last week we were ranked 3 out of 24 teams over halfway through the season.

This was the oil pattern for that tournament in Goldsboro. Sorry it is a lil blurry. To explain what the pattern means, you are looking at a visual representation of the lane with the gutters being on each side of the graph. The oiling machine makes four trips down the lane, each line represents how far down the lane the machine put the oil.

Now most of the time the oil machine puts a pattern that is shaped like this an upside down V with most of the oil being in the middle of the lane. This shot was EXTREMELY difficult b/c the outsides of the lane (where the graph spikes on the left and right hands sides) had more oil than on the middle of the lane...

My games were 126 , 176, 245, 236, 201, 185
I was in 27th place when i left...

Sometimes I go. My mum used to be a league bowler before the kids appeared. I have her ball, bag and shoes- a nice contrasting 70s Duke blue/Carolina blue combination. I'm surprised the ball still bowls nicely after 30-some years.

I bowl around 100 or so, which is enough to beat my boyfriend. We go to the ghetto-fabulous lanes in East Durham and always fear for our lives.

I bowl in a league on Wednesdays at South Hills in Cary. It's my first year in a league and my average is currently a 143.

I bowl with my dad and had been using his ball and finally got my own a few weeks ago. I've used it twice and am still getting used to it. This is what I did last week: 191, 145, 138, 166, 164, 193. Figures that my 2 crappiest games came when it counted.

i thought you meant you bowled on the club team...

There was a club team that traveled, we had a lil bit of funding from fundraising and grants, but mostly had to pay our own way.

It was interesting because we bowled against colleges most have never heard of....

Witchita St
Saginaw Valley St
Shippensburg Univ
Univ of Maryland Northern Shore(?)
Weber St

then the bigger name schools...

FSU
Florida
Kansas
Michigan St
Penn St
Indiana
Texas A&M
Oklahoma
Va Tech
ECU

and like i mentioned earlier... there was A LOT of free practice and coaching. If you are still at NCSU it's something you might want to look into....

oh and for the thru 9 events this year the top PBA money winner has won over
Quote :
"
$30,000

PER

WEEK"

or $270,940.00

and oh and just wait to see the winnings TRIPLE next year when NASCAR and PBA BOWLING are the only sports on TV on sunday afternoons... Advertisers are going to have to throw their money somewhere.

Yeah I just bowled in the gym class and in my free time. I'm in my last semester as a graduate student now but I wish I had known about it, that sounds awesome you got to travel. Who coached the team?

I hope to god bowling isn't the only thing to watch on Sundays; as much as I love it I couldn't live without NFL football

crossing my fingers for no holdout.

today i learned that you are supposed to be fitted for a ball and apparently lanes have a choice of 20W-30, 10W-30 or 5W-30.

i used to go bowling for fun and my highest score ever was like 160-170. but now i have a gimped up arm an am usually done by the middle of the 3rd game, and that's using the girly 8lb ball that i can barely get my fingertips in.

also, i don't roll on shabbos.

Getting fitted makes a huge difference. I used to only use a 12-13 lb alley ball and now I throw a fitted 16 lb ball no problem.

getting fitted is especially clutch if you're left handed like me because there's a slight offset on the fingers that makes a difference.

16 lbs is crazy, 14 is pushing it for me. I believe my current ball is 12 or 13. I may move up to 14 for my new one but I'm not sure just yet because I throw pretty fast (for better or worse)

Man, I'd love to get back into bowling. In middle school and high school I played on a traveling youth league. I was okay I guess for the time. I my highest average was somewhere around 185. Fluctuated a lot between games. Had all the crazy gear, two balls, et cetera. Loved the sport, but at the time I hated the people. This age bracket might be better for me (and, you know, beer).

^^I can't bowl at Western lanes to save my life.

I took an online bowling class at State as a freshmen and bowled several times a week with friends near my apartment at Pleasant Valley averaging like 180. When test day came I showed up at Western Lanes and realized the lanes are real hardwood and not synthetic. Long story short, I couldn't break 100 in a series and made the only C that I got in college

Anyone sanctioned looking to sub, we usually have a couple spots open every week, they are two person teams so it only takes ~1.5 hours...

haha David why didn't you tell me that there was a bowling thread?

I bowl on Tuesday nights w/ David at Pleasant Valley. (Been bowling for 4 years now)

I had been bowling w/ a 10 lb ball but I just upgraded to a 13 lb ball in December. I have been carrying A LOT more strikes. I had 8 or 9 strikes in one night a few weeks ago and now my average is getting higher each week.

New ball:

I also got new shoes in January and that has been helping a lot too since my shoes were 4 years old.

I just wish more girls liked to bowl because I am tired of being on a bowling league w/ just three guys. haha

I used to bowl a lot in college, but I've never been all that good. My average was mid-160s at its high point, and the best game I ever bowled was a 224 during one of those midnight bowling outings in Cary that my wife and I used to go to. Doubt I could bowl half that now. Still, crazy fun sport, and I'd love to get back into it.

^^^at the time I was enrolled as a lifelong student and that's all I could take. they had more lenient hour limits for online classes.

I actually hurt my ankle practicing on Sunday. Not sure what I did but I twisted it somehow (granted I had just come back from the bar and was pretty drunk) so I'm trying to stay off it til league on Thursday. Have to prebowl this week because I have some box seats at the RBC Center for our "basketball" team.

League went great last night!

I bowled 171, 156 and 153. I bowled a turkey (in the 10th frame) and two doubles. I probably bowled 10 strikes total last night.

I am going to move in to third place for handicap series (for females).

I am WOMAAANNNNNN.

Oh and I kicked David's butt all three games.

I hate Cary for that reason. Cops just post up outside of bars, they do it at Spirits too.

My team is finally moving up the ladder in terms of rank. We've played the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in that order and this week we finally have a weak opponent. The guy from the 1st place team bowled a 267 scratch last week
