So my laptop is being silly. It will not charge, but will hold a charge. I have heard that it is the adapter that is messed up and i have heard it is the BIOS. I tried to update the BIOS off Dell's site, but was unsuccessful! so does anyone have a suggestion?

this is the warning that comes up when i plug my charger in. its the charger that came with the computer.

what model do you have would probably be a good first question...

if it's not the bios, it's the charger, more than likely. and what was unsuccessful about updating the bios?

Inspiron 1545

as for the BIOS update, i click what it has me download and it pops up an message saying there is no files to download, go to drivers and downloads. I go to downloads and find what it had to me download and i click it and a download manager pops up and says there is no files to download, go to downloads and drivers....so im not sure where this drivers is...

id ask Dell, but apparently you have to pay for it. fuck that.

I went to best buy to talk to the geek squad and they told me to call dell. so im a bit overmatched as i know little about computers.

i have been getting all this off of support.dell.com

download works for me - sounds like a browser issue there. I can email you the bios flash. pm me if you want it.

most corporate websites are best to view in IE, for some reason, Chrome just doesn't work on some websites, specially if there's encryption or weird javascript running. I guess Chrome no loves asp?

Also, to note, I've had one charger fail on me. My 1705 requires a 90w and one day it said it was registering as a 65w and wouldn't charge my battery, but still gave enough juice to power the laptop on low speeds. They don't make these things reliable, this is the 3rd one so far and it's all wrapped in tape and super glued.

Hijack

My gfs' Lenovo Y series (don't remember the number right now) has stopped charging. It also won't run off of battery power at all, it immediately powers down when the adapter is removed. The battery is recognized, and it appears to have a charge (it's steadily dropping each day). Any ideas?

That's my guess, figured I should throw it out there and make sure it isn't just something stupid before getting a new one though.
