I'm taking one of these during the summer online, which one would you take? 2/21/2011 12:02:10 PM |

316 all the way.
when I took it, the professor gave us all 100s for both projects!
also, I pulled some really epic all nighters to get those free 100s 2/21/2011 12:11:20 PM |

316 was tough as shit. I'd probably take 236 if it's with Lasher. Never took 230. 2/21/2011 10:02:06 PM |

230 would be doable online. The material isn't anything radical, and resources abound.
Take 236 online if your hobbies include self administered frontal lobotomy and marathon caffeine-fueled programming benders. Taking 316 online would probably be just a shade behind that in terms of fun factor.
If you hadn't noticed, the last two are things I would never consider taking online, especially during the summer. They both have massive amounts of material to absorb, and the concepts will be comparatively foreign unless you're pretty savvy going into them. I found them both to be pretty challenging and time-consuming, even being over the course of a regular semester and making good use of office hours. 2/23/2011 1:42:49 PM |

I've taken 230 and 316 online previously and am taking 236 online this semester.
230 was pretty easy and probably the one I would recommend for a summer session. The professor (Dulberg) is awesome and he posts on the forums a lot for help or whatever.
316 is incredibly hard (or, at least, it was for me), and I probably wouldn't recommend it at the faster pace. If you've taken CSC 226 (Discrete Math), 316 is basically the application of that class. Very very useful, but tough subject material. Rhee is a good professor, but the TA wasn't very prompt or helpful when I took it, and that's really important for an online class (especially since Dr. Rhee travels a lot and can take a while to get back to you).
236 is what I'm taking right now. It's not so much hard as it is foreign, and I think you'll need the extra 8 weeks of a regular semester to give your brain the time it needs to adjust. I think I have a natural ability for this one, because I've had a pretty easy time of it so far (we haven't gotten to the last two programming projects yet, though, so I might change my mind later). Any time I've had a question about something I've gotten a response within a few hours. Lasher occasionally takes time out of lectures to read students' hate mail--probably my favorite part of the class. 2/25/2011 10:17:37 AM |

4^ You sir, must have been in the same 316 class as me.
If I had to pick one, I'd say 230.
I liked 236 being "in-class" and 316 is a pretty tough course to be taking online.
All are doable, but I'd say 230 would be your best bet. 2/25/2011 12:37:10 PM |
