This may be a pretty dumb question, but what are the main differences between the two. What will my limitations be with a netbook? I was looking at the one listed below. Please advise.

I wouldn't use a PJC in this instance. Just call a lawyer...

You're not going to game with a netbook and it will choke on high resolution video, particularly from places like YouTube and Hulu. The low resolution screen also makes Office and programming work cumbersome. However, if all you want it the ability to surf the web with a cheap and highly portable device, Netbooks fill that niche nicely.

Do you have a budget mind? Just for reference I bought an ACER Aspire 5742-7653 for $520 last year. It's not amazing by any means but it has an i5, hdmi port, a screen big enough to see, and a keyboard your hands fit on.

I weighed the pros and cons of a netbook and ultimately decided to pay a few hundred extra dollars so that I wouldn't be annoyed with the product two weeks later.

I'd be hesitant to buy a Netbook now. Seems to me that technological acceleration makes them outdated in a month similar to smart phones, whereas a notebook might hold its ground for awhile.

Netbooks are the up and coming hot item so I expect to see a ton of innovation in that area as Apple, Motorola, and other companies compete for dominance in the new field (not counting the current iPad since it has been mostly alone thus far). You might could buy through Best Buy and get their advancement insurance or w/e.

Also,

I wouldn't use a Tech Talk in this instance. Just post in the Lounge...

Is that a serious question? That means you don't know what a netbook is.

What you want depends on your mode/place of usage and preferences.

You have to tell is what you want to do with your device so we can tell you what you should get. It is like asking, should I get a hatchback or an SUV? I don't know dude, depends on what you want to do with the vehicle/computer.

I have a very large netbook. Its an HP mini and has 2Gigs of RAM. Runs perfectly fast for everything I do: internet, videos, netflix, office, music and skype. When I run multiple programs at the same time (skype with office) it starts to lag. Other than that its crystal clear.

The one drawback is lack of a cdrom but I have card slots and several usb slots so thats no big deal in today's world.

It all depends on what you are doing. When I want to edit videoes, watch blue-rays and play the latest video games, I have to use my desktop.

I would never go back to a notebook btw. Battery and portability issues. This thing is on the large end of netbooks and slides easily into any bag. If you carry it around in a back-strap back while you are out and about, you don't even feel it there.

i had a netbook until recently & loved it, but after a couple of years it just got to be too small. my wrists couldn't handle the keyboard anymore & the 32gb of ssd space wasn't enough. i had a dell mini 9 (so 8.9" screen) running osx 10.5. i sold it to my office to use for presentations & whatnot. they were thinking of buying one anyway.

about a month ago i bought a 13" macbook air (so still not as big as the average 15" notebook, but it feels like a movie screen compared to that mini 9). i already had couple of other macs & wanted to stick with a ssd. i <3 it mucho

i had a 13" acer for a few years that i got for grad school. i loved it since it was the perfect size. 3lbs is light for toting around and you barely noticed you had it, plenty of battery life on the extended battery, screen/keyboard weren't super cramped. i'm sad is dropped it on the corner of the screen shattering all life it had.

[Edited on March 2, 2011 at 2:48 PM. Reason : everyone hate acer here, but it was the best laptop ive had ]

i went through 2 netbooks and finally just got a real 13" computer. I think the ONLY reason to get a netbook now is if you want to save money.

^^ i have a "real" 13" laptop, too...it's my primary machine (even over my desktop, unless i'm gaming or doing some heavy A/V work)

my wife and i take the netbook with us when we travel, coffee shops, etc...for ~$200, it's worth having
