i have a directory on my GPS with a bunch of files with special characters in the name and i can't delete them...i keep getting:
"the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"
i've tried the more obvious solutions including:
del X:\dir del X:\dir\* rd X:\dir /s rmdir X:\dir /s
yes, i COULD copy everything off of the GPS and reformat, but i was hoping for another solution, as the tomtom is only USB 1.1 and it will take forever to copy, delete, and restore the 2gb
the files are also reporting the wrong sizes...each file is roughly 4gb (supposedly), but that's not possible since it's only got 2gb of memory 3/1/2011 2:16:08 PM |

can you rename them?
Although, it sounds like you have a language conversion problem. TomTom is a European device... 3/1/2011 2:18:36 PM |

uh, okay, so running
chkdsk X:\dir /f
just removed the folder altogether, which is all i needed 3/1/2011 2:28:09 PM |

Most likely there was a filesystem error, like there was still a directory index floating around with no actual directory to be associated to, as if the directory were actually deleted without removing its entry in the filesystem. 3/1/2011 6:24:37 PM |
