Can't argue with his results though
If he's keeping it to one at a time who cares? More than 1 at a time he needs an ad. 3/9/2011 3:34:20 PM |

I like the offers where the guy uses the word "CASH" in his offer and follows it up with a couple blank lines and "Hundred Dollar Bills" as if I was really worried about some stripper showing up and paying with ones.

^^ I re-posted it. Just search Ram 50, its $2850 now.
^I actually used that line in person today. I was gun shopping, and wanted the best price on the gun and I was like "look, whats your best cash price" then he was like "hundred dollar bills"? 3/15/2011 4:46:57 PM |

I've never understood the "cash" thing. what the fuck else are you gonna pay with?
"cash price" is attractive if you're a business and either (a) don't want the credit card fees, or (b) don't want to report all your profits to the IRS. touting "CASH" to an individual for a used item, be it a car, a computer, or whatever else, is stupid. 3/16/2011 12:03:26 AM |

^Hell I'm guilty of it. If I email someone an offer on whatever, I'm always like "$xxx CASH". Like I was originally going to pay in rations of wheat, or by credit card lol. It amuses me (also b/c I put cash in caps). 3/16/2011 12:06:45 AM |

I would think that using **cash** would help intensify the want of the item I guess. It also might help speed a transaction up if a seller sees the word cash. Something about the word.3/16/2011 2:20:58 AM |

you'd have a point were it not for the fact that paying with cash GENERALLY means there's no paper trail and you can claim you sold it for $1 for tax purposes (an advantage for both parties)
illegal, sure...but unless it's a sting or something, it's a pretty safe bet you'll get away with it if you don't do it often (also, saying you sold it for $1 is dumb...making up some low number like $250 or $400 or something seems like it would keep you out of trouble if you were audited or something)3/16/2011 10:14:28 AM |

The main benefit to "cash" that I can really see is that you know the person has the money. A lot of people will fail to qualify for financing after they negotiate a price and all that; wasting a lot of the seller's time in the process. If it's less than a $3,000 transaction I just assume it'll be done on a cash basis.

Yeah, and unreported cash can be tucked away if a person may be facing bankruptcy. Can't really pull a large sum of cash out of your bank account and claim to not have any record of where it went.

^ well, i also meant you can avoid paying capital gains taxes if there's no paper trail
very basically, if i buy a car for $1000 and fix it up for $500 and then sell it for $3000, i'm supposed to pay taxes on the $2000 "profit" (considering what i paid, not what i put into it)...if there's no paper trail and i can claim i sold it for $1000 (or even "prove" it with a notarized bill of sale or something), i walk away with a cool $1500 tax-free
not that i remember, exactly, but i think you're SUPPOSED to pay tax if you buy the vehicle, too (but i could be wrong)...if that's the case, though, "proving" that you only paid $1000 means you pay fewer taxes as the purchaser 3/16/2011 7:38:23 PM |

yeah, but pretty much nobody (individuals, anyway...which is why I specified "businesses") ever does that, and I refuse to believe that anyone ever offers "cash" for that reason--particularly in light of the fact that i kind of envision most of the "CASH" crowd as a bunch of mouth-breathers.

Yeah, I mean, when buying a nice, new-ish sports car, I've been known to say stuff like "I have the money/cash in hand and can come pick it up tonight." When you're talking about a 15-20 year old truck, it's obvious that you have the cash in hand, because nobody is going to finance you for it anyway.
In any case, by the time you show up to buy it, there's only one thing you're going to be paying with, unless you arranged a trade.

People here in FL show up expecting to pay with a personal check. There was no way I was taking his potentially worthless printed sheet of paper in exchange for our boat. Therefore, yes- cash does mean something. To him it meant waiting an extra day and driving an extra 3 hours because he was stupid.
Good luck selling the truck. 3/19/2011 2:51:01 PM |
