Got a coworker from another office in town, decide it would be good to get him something with a bit of local flavor. Suggest "The Pit" couple other casual things in town.

Local coworker says its "out of his price range", suggests generic shitty mexican restaurant. Thats probably what we're gonna end up doing.

Go to Clyde Cooper's. It is better than the pit and cheaper than any Mexican place. Been here since the 30's I think, at least. That's local flavor right there.

^^theres a location in cary

^Yeah with locals I would go there but its a manager from out of town and we've got a whole smattering of internationals and transplants that I figured it would be a little better for the situation.

point is I think we can do better than going to someplace that puts out the same tacos and burritos as every other "el rodeo" across america for once in a while for a business situation

Los Tres Magueyes is still as generic as the rest of them, but I've found that they are typically a little better/less greasy than El Rodeo, El Dorado, etc. I'd go there if I had to chose one.

I guess the problem is I'm the only native N. Carolinian in the company, everybody else is international or transplant so I guess they don't give a crap about the nice local stuff.

$15 is out of his price range so he's going to go spend $11 on a pile of greasey cheese and beef.

In a situation like that make the person who's going to be most difficult about it plan it. If he refuses, his opinion gets automatically nullified.

I suggested we just let the guy from out of town choose but then the coworker said if he chooses x, y, or z then he's not going. If this was a bigger office I'd say screw him but its just 5 of us so I don't want to have to deal with him pouting for a while.

Side note:

One time I was in LTM and overheard some guy saying how much they loved the place and that they drove all the way from Charlotte to eat there (to the one on the corner of Maynard and Kildare)

That said this was many, many years ago. I think there were only a few in existence and they hadn't quite sold out to the generic chain suppliers/offerings at the time. There was still a decent quality gap between them and the other chains. I remember thinking, sure it's good, but Charlotte? Seriously?

Maybe that guy is working in your company now.

I have been hearing shit like this and other kinds of childish drama so much lately. Most adults really aren't very grown up after all.

These people are not worth taking someplace decent. If they're content with garbage, then let them eat garbage. They wouldn't appreciate good food anyway.

At the end of the day Los Tres Mag. may be a fine establishment, but I'm not suggesting it for the same reason I wouldn't suggest an IHOP. I LOVE IHOP, but lets have some class and hospitality and do something just a little bit nicer and more unique than something someone can get in any other city in america [/blog]

$11.99 at a crappy Mexican restaurant? Most of the crappy ones I go to have a list of plates for $6.25, another list for $6.50 and finally the elite of the elite. The $6.75 list. For the big spender.

Of course you could go high hog and get the Grande Especial where they just give you one of every permutation that they figured out on combining beef, chicken, beans, rice, and cheese.

I think the problem is partly the location as well, I listed a couple other neat things like irregardless and the big easy, both places you could get something for ~15 bucks and I think he just doesn't want to go into town.

These people I work with think going into Raleigh is such a chore even though we work right at US1 and 40 . This aint new york people we can be downtown in 10 minutes from where we are at.

how selfish and provincial

they don't want to show their coworker the best their city has to offer because parking MIGHT be an inconvenience (but it won't)

I bet they don't want to waddle their fat asses more than a few feet from the handicapped spot into the buffet line - huffing and puffing all the way

especially on a wednesday night - there's no one downtown. i could see it being more of an issue on a friday but not in the middle of the week. it sounds like your coworker needs to branch out more.

Exactly, I wouldn't even bother suggesting some of these on a Thur-Sun but come on its Wednesday and its a great time to get into some of these spots on an off night.

wow, they are missing out on a lot of great restaurants if they refuse to go downtown

David's Dumpling and Noodle Bar is fantastic and very reasonably priced.

Personally, i wouldn't cater to them, and let him/them not show up. They'll only make themselves look bad to the out of town manager.

If i'm put in charge of planning something like that, I'd only cater towards the person that we're going out to dinner for.

yeah if things weren't so screwed up here politically I'd just say screw it but the fact that we've got so few people makes everything personal and then you have to keep dealing with him everyday

I mean its not like I really want to spend my off time hanging out with a bunch of coworkers half of whom are 10~20 years older than me anyway but I'm just gonna do it to make my life easier in the long run.

^^ Thats the worst part of it is, nobody else is local even from college and they just live and do stuff around cary/morrisville and never go into raleigh or durham for shit. Work has us travel a lot so I assume they spend most of their time at home but they don't know shit about anything local.

Our office is just 4 years old. I was the first employee here and everyone else was hired out from other offices or locations. I'm the only one who seems to do anything around town and I'm actually boring as fuck

Your co-workers sound like boring assholes, but pretty par for the course for transplants who live in the burbs and work in generic office parks on the fringes of Raleigh.

^^Not a business dinner, more just hospitality taking this guy out, still I don't think $15~20 is unreasonable to spend for a one time thing at a decent rest.
