I have the opportunity to media blast and powder coat my cast aluminum wheels at the shop where I work, and all I have to pay for is the powder.

a few people have warned against powder coating aluminum, saying that the short time spent in the 400F curing oven would weaken the cast aluminum in some way. I'm pretty sure most aluminum alloys don't start to anneal until about 650F, but some aging of the metal could occur at a lower temp i guess..

anybody have any experience with powder coated AL wheels?

i thought most stock wheels on cars were cast and powdercoated aluminum but i guess they could just be painted and cleared.

I'm not sure what alloy your aluminum wheels are but we powder coat alloy 5052 on a daily basis with no issue.

I can't say for sure what alloy it is... i know a lot of cast aluminum wheels are A356

and I'll add you guys to the list... if they don't mind me hogging the booth and curing oven on the weekends then we might be able to work something out.

btw i'm in SC, about 2.5hrs from Raleigh
