My birthday was last Saturday and the way our office works is you buy the cake for the next birthday. The next one was today and I forgot. Somebody just reminded me now and I went and apologized and said I'd bring the cake tomorrow.

Should I go get one at lunch anyways? Or is the damage of forgetting already done and getting a cake now won't make that any different?

Got distracted by the NC State coaching search.

But my wife was going to make a cake. Surely she'd prefer that over a store bought shitty cake, right?

Don't go to the supermarket for cake. Are you in RTP? Waiting until tomorrow would be no bueno.

yeah, I thought it was weird too.

I think I'm going to wait. I'm already an asshole for forgetting. I'd rather have some really good cupcakes or a cake tomorrow for her than rush to get something sucky now

off topic a bit, but I made a rum cake for my boss' birthday on Monday. It was WAY better than any store bought cake....with the obvious exception of an ice cream cake.

Personally I'd be pissed if I got a cake after my birthday. Just suck it up, go to Guglhupf, and buy one of their amazing cakes from the bakery.

Its not even noon yet. Whats the big deal about giving her a cake in the afternoon? You still have 6 hours of workday left.

I mean if you really want to bring in your wife's cake, do both. Get her a cake today and then bring in the homemade one tomorrow.

Office food events are always such a good way to gain insight into your co-workers.

Who is going to be the first person in line? Are they first because they're assertive or because they can't resist the urge to stuff their face?

Who is going to get two slices of cheesecake when there are only 10 to go around and at least 15 people in attendance?

Who is going to make a motherfucking take home plate. Better yet, who is going to make a take home plate using high demand foods such as the peperoni pizza before everybody has finished eating?

Where are the cool people sitting? Who sat their first only to have everybody else flock to their table? Did the first person through the line sit down at a table only to get up and move a few minutes later because nobody joined him?

These things are crucial in establishing your place in office hierarchy.

Buy her an expensive cake today and then build her a nice cake for tomorrow to redeem yourself.

[Edited on April 6, 2011 at 12:04 PM. Reason : and leave the price tag on to show her you care]

Get a cake shaped like a gigantic dick

Observe who eats which parts, and bring that up with them at various times throughout the year.
